BFA is the worst expansion, change my mind

Hi.

I know it’s a tradition among wow community to trash current expansion, even some of the liked ones. For instance, mop was hated when it was current but appears nowadays as a good expansion, even if it had some issues :

-Dungeons were too easy.
-25 WQ per day is not fun and is overwhelming.
-5.4 lasted way too long, no patch should last a year, this leads to boredom.

So now, the trend is to trash SL hard and say that BFA was not that bad and therefore better than SL. But I don’t share that view, whatsoever, since I do think BFA is really the worst expansion ever. I even think that WOD was not that bad, as a raider though.

Also, I’m not going to pretend SL has no issues, since there are hot topics :
-Covenants system is being poorly designed
-Loot scarcity does not feel good
-The maw is boring

I’m now going to say what I didn’t liked about BFA, summing up everything I hated :

-Class being slower than during Legion : GCD changes were not fun, this is why they reverted them.
-Class being broken : They designed classes around artifacts traits and legendaries. Removing those without reworking classes lead to that disaster.
-Uldir was poorly designed : Heavily emphasized 2 targets cleave and promoted the idea the less melee, the best, up until ZUL, where all the sudden bringing a lot of melee becomes good.
-EP is average but : Azshara was overloaded, it’s an overloaded boss only for that sake, that was not fun at all.
-Nya is easily the worst ending raid tier, thus ousting DS. N’zoth turned to be the worst last boss ever made.
-I’m not a pvp player but : It seems like PVP community hated BFA because they couldn’t gear doig pvp, which honestly sucks. Essences also played a role in this.
-Speaking of essences, it’s a bad system : Pushing players in doing things they dislike is neither fun nor engaging. More especially when essences didn’t shine in situation they’re coming from. For instance, best M+ essences were obtained in PVP and best PVP essences came from raiding. What’s that ?
-Corruptions were not fun : The idea of removing a garbage RNG system by a worst RNG system was a silly move. The “”“fix”"" came to late and was still awful, since the vendor was not permanently selling corruptions.
-Speaking of essences and corruptions : Why are passives damages sources like essences and corruption procs doing more damages than active abilities ? It’s like pressing a spell in the hope of getting those procs, rather than hitting a spell because it’s satisfying doing so.
-Those systems are the reasons why BFA didn’t allowed to play alts : Essences required to farm them on every single char, before the vendor came. It was implemented too late imho. The cloack also forbid playing alt.
-Islands and warfront were disapointing : We were told we’re going to live WARCRAFT III as a hero. Turns out, we didn’t and just rushed catapult and then stomped the boss. As regarding islands, we were promised a true procedural system, which we didn’t get in the end. By that, I mean islands were always the same, the only thing that changed were mobs encountered.
-Speaking of this RNG : it made targeting cosmetics from islands unfun. It was eventually fixed with vendor, but that was still too RNG.
-Besides S2 and S4, seasonal affixes were not fun.
-Dungeons were not fun, whatsoever.

TLDR : BFA sucked in every single aspect of the game, from classes to expansion features. Prove me wrong ! Change my mind !

Nothing will ever be close to BFA and WoD

The problem with BFA is that it came out after a great expansion, Legion, so naturally people expected BFA to be even better, which it obviously wasnt.

Objectively speaking, WoD is obviously lightyears worse than BFA, same goes for Cataclysm. BFA is competing with MoP to be 4th or 5th best expansion, not including shadowlands.

My personal take on BFA would be: anything before 8.3 was fine (except Nazjatar and essenses), everything after is almost killed the game for me. BFA had very beautifull zones that existed in form of landmasses (not some floating sandboxes in infinte space… although I love Ardenwaeld). But all those terrible, forced systems RUINED that expansion.

I remember reading one of the Ion’s interview in which he mumbled something about “descision matrix…” yada-yada, like “we are aware of the players’ behavioral patterns…” bla bla. Man… This is where you get that the guy is lost. He is like an accountant who’s put to run an art studio. Clueless yet industrios. This is exactly what he produces, abundant content full of systems that no one likes.

Enfoncer des portes ouvertes.

had they ended it on 8.2.5, that would’ve been true

How does it feel to live in a dreamworld?`

BFA<=WoD

And MoP ist one of the best expansions from Gamedesign (not visual)

I agree… I had the best gear you could get (outside of Mythic raiding) and it sucked hard…

If you didnt farm the extra stuff (essences, corruptions etc) you could literally uninstall

BFA was amazing:

  • dungeons were great
  • questing zones were amazing
  • very good campaign story line from both sides
  • Bwomsamdi
  • corruptions was one of the most fun things implemented, so much cheese potential
  • no aoe cap
  • obelisks and reaping was very fun affixes to play with
  • essences were fun to play around, even if you chose non-meta ones
  • azerite powers were impactful and was felt
I can continue, but that’s enough

At least is was warcraft someway.

BFA was worse than WoD without a doubt.

Whoa, is it April 1st already? This year is flying by.

Oooh! you’re obviously being sarcastic.

And yet google trends and forum activity during BfA 8.3 were still higher than they are now

But I have barely played BfA because of how bad pvp gearing was but pvp now without any sort of scaling is crap too (it’s kinda “ok” on my main since I haven’t missed a weekly chest but doing pvp on my alt now just makes me want to quit the game).

Doesn’t help much that SL might be better than BfA, it’s still absolutely disappointing in every way imo.

There’s no such thing as too easy.

Gives stuff to do.

That one I agree with.

I won’t definitively be able to claim such a thing until all patches have been released.

8.3 was really godawful. SL is not quite down to that level, but it is far from being good. So we’ll just have to wait and see.

BfA made me take a break for about 5 weeks or so. I still had stuff to do though for most of its lifespan. That all changed in 8.3. That was SO bad.

In SL I do not have much worthwhile stuff to do anymore and we’re only a few months into the expansion. That’s a problem. That’s a real, real problem.

So it’s not looking good. Now; the patches may turn this thing around. That’s a possibility. So I’m not going to claim here that SL is worse than BfA. Yet.

Do this thread again when 9.3 is out.

The main problem with SL is, is that it comes on the heels of a disappointing expansion. So that just makes this one feel worse, because we were already burned by the last one. There’s only so much disappointment a human being can take.

Anyway, all of this is moot anyway because THE worst expansion in WoW history is TBC. True story.

No I am not joking, but haters will not change their minds  I enjoyed whole campaign, quests, cinematics - very well done. Atm SL just feels very empty and unengaging.
As for corruptions - while raiding meta part of just stacking stat sticks is just borring itteration - making cheese for pvp or m+ was fun, smth like:

  • guardian druid with stacked TD in m+
  • tentacles in bg pvp
  • unkillable 50% versatility resto shaman ghost wolf FC omegalul

At least having full bank of corrupted items gave smth to do and play around instead of running m+ to get 35 anima.

Forum activity is an awful metric to look at.
8.3 forum talk wasn’t positive, it was predominantly “8.3 sucks” and SL alpha / beta talk.

As for Google trends, such a complicated tool to use correctly because people have many different terms for WoW. What trend are you saying is lower? because “World of Warcraft” is not sufficient.

The term “Shadowlands” over the past 12 months is way higher than BFA and Battle for Azeroth combined.
Same for SL, but SL appears to be skewed by alternative search queries.

The search “wowhead” is higher now than it was in 8.3.
