BFA on Macbook Pro 13 2018

Hello,
is someone playing currently WoW on Macbook Pro 13 2018 with touchbar? Can you share experience about it? Is wow playable? (arenas, world quests, dungeons, raids..) How about heating? What about batery? Are there some issues?

I am thinking about buying one for travels and playing on the road...

Thank you all!
Well, overall Apple's products are for casual usage and not for games. In combination with 13inch will be a bad experience imo.

Btw why did you mention touchbar? You mean for keybinds?... hope not!

If you want a serious game experience desktop, chair, keyboard, mouse, headphones. I know that this might sound expensive, but its worth if you are planning to play games in your free time.

I realized that after 15 years being a gamer.

This ↑.
You can buy a decent and better gaming rig or laptop for less or same price (including mouse, keyboard and headphones) for the same price as just the mac.

In general as said, Macs are not exactly made nor good for playing games on.

Headphones are unnecessary, the rest is true.

You are right, it's good for many competitive games.
Dell Inspiron 7559 (i7-6700HQ/16GB/1TB/GeForce GTX 960Îś/FHD/W10)

880Euros.

Also, Black Friday is on the 19th November so mb wait a bit.
The discussion is not about what to buy, but about experience you guys have playing wow.. and nobody wrote me those :)
You will fry your laptop pretty quickly if you spent over 10 mins in WoW. The thermal management on the latest series of Macbook's are BAD. To combat the heat, the system will start to throttle the CPU/GPU and the game will start to really slow down fps from this.

Playing on a laptop is not the greatest of ideas, as they will never be able to match a desktop made up of a similar spec. If you have to play on a laptop, try and have it raised off the surface, so airflow can get underneath the chassis, which will help with heat management.

I haven’t done that, but I don’t think you’ll have a very good experience. The GPU is very underpowered.

However, if you can hook it up with an eGPU and an external monitor, you’ll have a fantastic experience. Might even be able to max it out.

WoW works really well on MacOS. It gives about the same framerate as it does on Windows in DX11 mode. The new DX12 mode is a little faster if you’ve got an insane GPU and a bad CPU and you’re in a major city, but otherwise there’s no real difference.

Battery life is severely reduced when you play games. My experience from my old MacBook Pro from 2011 says you should expect about 2 hours of gaming, and while it doesn’t get as noisy as virtually any other laptop you can buy, it does get quite noisy.

As for the touch bar, it can be programmed to show the standard row of function keys by default in any particular app, as per your choices. You can simply tell it to show F1-F12 when playing WoW and then, yes, you can use them for keybinds.

In general I would not recommend it if you’re just thinking about playing on the road. If you need a Mac or plan to use a significant amount of time on the road in desktop mode, and if you can tether yourself to a table with an eGPU whenever you want to game, it’s a solid choice.

If you want to actually game on the go, you’ll need the 15", but a this point the price becomes so extreme that, frankly, you’d be much better served going with a PC. The product most similar to a MacBook Pro would be the Razer Blade, so I’d probably go with that. And this is coming from someone who loves MacOS. Apple have lost their darn minds when it comes to pricing their Macs.

EDIT: Lul I just realised it’s a 2 month old thread. Y u bump this? Wasn’t this supposed to have been autolocked?

Playing WoW on MBP 15 2018.
Well, it works. Haven’t touched any raid yet, but questing is decent enough. Also I have installed BetterTouchTool and made custom Touch Bar setup. Now instead of just F1-F12 keys I have spell icons :stuck_out_tongue:

So, do people look at that touch bar when they use it? I can’t image you’d hit the right spot without taking your eyes of the screen.
