Damn almost 500 R1 titles?

Seems so, although they do say they arenā€™t the ā€œFINALā€ cut offs in the bottom, so I wonder how much itā€™ll actually increase

thereā€™s no way these cutoffs can be accurate? 500 rank 1 slots?? did that many people REALLY get Jebaited into coming back for BfA, to the point that top .1% is 500, before realising how garbo it is and abandoning a month or two in?

Woops, it was the US link before, sorry :x Itā€™s 3k for EU

could be the huge influx of PvE players farming arenas for gear (specifically during mythic progress)

hmm r1 cutoff for alliance being higher than for horde seems unrealistic

So someone correct me if Iā€™m wrong but this implies:

Horde:
3022 rating -> rank 439 (currently a Blood Elf Paladin).
254 players on Horde are higher ranked than this [within 2 hours of Blizzard posting this thread].
This means 255 people get R1 on Horde.

255 / 0.001 = 255 000 people in the playerpool on Horde (1K+ rating).

Alliance:

3069 rating -> rank 355 (currently a Human Mage).
149 players on Alliance are above that rank [within 2 hours of Blizzard posting this thread].
This means 150 people get R1 on Alliance.

150 / 0.001 = 150 000 people in the playerpool on Alliance (1K+ rating).

This means that in total 405K characters are eligble (1K+ rating) for rewards this season.

With those numbers an old school gladiator (0.5% and shared between Alliance & Horde) would land at around rank 2025, which is currently ~2682 rating (subject to increase).

Old school duelist (3%) is approximately rank 12150, which is likely in the 2100-2300 range [Source: based on being rank ~6500 on 2401 rating @ Alliance & approximating from there, someone could do a more accurate job of calculating this].

TL;DR:

  • R1 on Horde is 255 top Horde players on the ladder.
  • R1 on Alliance is 150 top Alliance players on the ladder.
  • Approximately 405K eligble characters (1K+ rating) participated in arena this season.
  • Old School (0.5%, faction-shared) Gladiator would be rank 2025 [~2682 rating as of right now].
  • Gladiator is devalued by at least 282 rating this season [new Gladiator @ 2400 rating compared to old 0.5% version].
  • Old School 3% Duelist would be rank 12000-13500 [Approx. 2100-2300 rating, based on being rank ~6500 on 2401 rating @ Alliance].

ā€˜ā€˜500 r1 titlesā€™ā€™. Theyā€™re awarded to the top 0.1% of pvp playerbase. Guess the game is not so dead, huh?

150+255=500 kappa

oh no, the game is very very dead. The reason there is so many slots for this season is because of all the PvE players who played a small amount of arena at the start of the expansion to get easy high ilvl gear and all the people who got Jebaited by blizzard yet again into thinking BfA might actually be not abysmal and have been long gone at this point

dread gladiator title is the ultimate meme, on par with Vindictive season horde rank 1 being something like 2770cr when alliance was 2970 AND blizzard fkn up distributions and giving it to 2.6cr players, a lot of which kept it by deleting their char then undeleting it after blizzard pruned the title from everyone who didnā€™t deserve it

There is just no way that r1 is 3k with 500 players getting r1 if the title is still only for the top 0,1%.

They either made a mistake or lowered the ladder rank you need to get r1.

3k for r1 with 3,5k highest rating seems weird anyway.

I think Blizzard probably spiced these numbersā€¦

Thereā€™s no way for us to accurately track the size of the ladder right now, instead we have to do backway analysis based on the rating Blizzard claims is required for R1 (and then we can look at the rank of the person at that rating at that specific time and multiply by 1000, do that for both Horde/Alliance and add up the numbers).

The numbers show that weā€™re somewhere around ~405K+ eligble characters for BfA. That is more than WoD S1 (which had 320K eligble players) and 10mil+ players subscribed in the first season.

Hereā€™s some reference data:
S1-S13: No data.
MoP S14: 275K
MoP S15: 375K
WoD S1: 320K
WoD S2: 150K
WoD S3: 300K
Legion S1: ~211K+
Legion S2-S7: No data.
BfA S1: ~405K+

Given that we know that itā€™s an old game a subscriber spike which could cause 405K eligble participants (matching approx. ~12M players, if we extrapolate a bit from previous sub/arena-playerbase numbers) is not very likely, not to say almost completely unreasonable.

In essence Blizzard is probably lying.
