The Hunter Binding Shot change from this week’s PTR update has been reverted.
Developers’ note: Due to an oversight when changing Binding Shot from a stun to a root, Binding Shot was not updated to obey normal root rules. During our bug fixing process, we updated it to break on damage in 9.1.5. However, we realize this is a big change and that Binding Shot has become a powerful tool for Hunters. As a result, we are reverting this change and allowing Binding Shot to not break on damage.
It’s annoying how simplistic the Devs thinking is.
Binding shot isn’t “easy” to use or “overpowered”… let’s see:
you need to target it right
you need to coordinate with tank to move mobs, or else it will not take hold and just time out
even when triggered, the mobs are rooted, not stunned, which only gives some leverage to ranged - tank and melee can still get damaged
JUMPING mobs do get rooted, but only after they jump - unlike Ursol’s vortex which negates any jump or movement abilities (…and no word of Ursol nerf!)
in PvP, this gets dispelled, and again, ranged are unaffected unless their opponent can move outside of their range while they wait for the time-out.
Particularly, the DURATION trait of the binding shot, which runs regardless of the damage the target is taking, provides the limit that is needed on the likes of mass entanglement.
If we were to go to total homogenization, then we’d have to
delete the warlock stun; it’s aoe and limited time limit but does not break on damage!
delete the mass entanglement from druids, it’s unfair they don’t have to deal with spell targeting reticle and can just root anything they can target
delete ursol’s vortex, it does not break on damage and worse, destroys mechanics by preventing any jump abilities from working
delete any aoe fears, like those that priests or warriors have, since they don’t require reticle targeting, even though they break on damage
…and that’s just for classes I have some idea about.
Don’t even get me started on Rogues, the stunned-disoriented-rooted-stunned-UR_DEAD class we all love. Which, regardless of spec, takes 3 out of 5 top DPS spots in current content. WHERE IS THE NERFBAT? Or are too many devs playing rogues now?
