Blacksmithing in WotLK

Is it worth it? I’m not aiming to make loads of gold, and I 'm prepared to grind for resources, but will I be able to use the things I make in Wrath? I’m currently lvl 30 with BS at 169. I had good use of it for now, but unless I find patterns from another than the Bs trainer I will not get any benefits before earliest lvl 42. So this is the time to decide whether I should continue lvling it or scrap it and go mining and skinning like everyone else? It would probably be more profitable, but will BS be useful again before WotLK, leveling in WotLK, early, mid and late in WotLK era. Would be really grateful if someone can give me some insight on this.

Edit: It’s my warrior that is the BS, not my mage.

Its worth, you can make pvp items, you can get extra sockets on gear.

There are ups and downs on every proffession.

Skinning/mining is gonna be painful on big servers, every node and animal will be contested imo.

There are other more efficient ways of making gold tbh.

Somewhat, but i wouldnt spend time/effort into making end-game stuff, since most of it will be changed very early in wotlk. Just get your skill up to wotlk level, so you can level it once wotlk hits.

Dont think you will make alot of stuff from bs while leveling, you get good items through questing anyway.

Early, yes. Otherwise the only thing you will use mid/late is the sockets it brings, which is nice.

Generally speaking, you should only level a crafting profession during levelling process as a form of roleplay. It is much easier and more time- and effort efficient to level a creafting profession at max level with bought materials. While levelling, you are much better of with two gathering professions and just selling your output, occasionally buying a green or blue item on AH for a slot you haven’t had a quest reward upgrade for in some levels. As a warrior, that would 90% of the time be a new 2h weapon.

Blacksmithing at max level in Wrath is a good profession, it gives bonus sockets and allows you to craft some juicy PvP and PvE items. But again, much easier to get at 80 with bought mats.

Overall, best professions in Wrath are : Jewelcrafting/Blacksmith/Engineer.

IMO gathering professions are still the best to make golds because modern players tend to be lazy and prefer buying golds to buy ressources than gathering. Especially mining, because as you can see, all the best professions require ores.

Blacksmithing is semi-useful for the early ilvl200 weapons but replaced so quickly, after that the next decent items are the T9 bracers and then the legs in ICC. Those bracers/legs are really good and really desired during progression and for alts, tho not BIS (due to being below Heroic mode 25man quality).

Blacksmithing can also make belt buckles to sell on AH which always have value and you get a free socket on your bracers for extra stats.

Thank you for all your input guys. I guess I will keep BS, I find it more intersting than just skinning anyway.

I think BS/JC are the BiS proffs for Wrath. Unless you are a speed runner then you want engi.

true dat.
every proffs has its up and down
but still, the class your have do the bigger thing, you don’t go LW as a plate user, and vice versa

Well, I remember a lot of plate, mail and leather users going tailoring back in the days. The attack power embroidery is powerful indeed and Tailoring is very easy to level up.

I mean, you can. The Fur lining enchant on legs is still great.

Profs is only good very early on imo, if you think long term things can look different. You can also make money with LW i reckon.

I went bs/jc on my sham, but i dont plan on making any plate gear or weapons for him.
Strictly use it for the sockets it provides.

I was thinking about BS for my holy pala in wrath but I decided to go for engineering. BS provides some pre raid bis gear and some stuff you can use when you don’t have any drops in naxx but aside from the extra sockets it gives me next to nothing. Engi on the other hand gives me rocket boost which is handy during boss fights + a mini heroism on the hands slot.

Two more intellect sockets are a thing to be considered actually.

Meh, I’ve looked at a few scenarios and while extra stats are nice, the utility in the form of a speed boost + very nice haste buff on a low CD is very competitive imo. Esp since they are tools to be used whenever a situation calls for them.

One thing when it comes to JC is that people forget (unless blizz changes it) the JC only 34 stat gems (which u can use 3 of) should be available in p1 so when compared to say 2 BS sockets it will initially be +32 extra stats from BS which when compared to 3x34 JC gems means a +20 stat diff in favor of JC (102-80 aka 16x5[cause we use 3 slots for 34 and 2 extra bs]) instead of the later 2 stat diff when accounting for +20 stat epic gems.

But in the end as some ppl mentioned its min/maxing really so… shouldnt be bothered much by it unless u really care lol

Characters stacking single stat regardless of set bonuses (Warrior - armor pene, Hpallys - Intellect, Tanks - stamina) should use JWC+BS. Just for the big hit points / mana / deeps numbers on screen
