I recently encountered a frustrating bug in Blitz Rated Battlegrounds (RBG) and wanted to share my experience here since I couldn’t submit a ticket due to the lack of an appropriate category for this issue. I’m posting this to reach a wider audience and hopefully prevent this from happening to others, as there’s currently no way to restore lost rating.
What Happened:
I was queued for a Blitz RBG and accepted the queue pop-up. While the queue was processing, I used a town portal from Dornogal to Stormwind. After the portal loaded me into Stormwind, I wasn’t phased into the battleground. Instead, I was completely locked out of the match and unable to participate.
Impact:
I lost approximately 150 rating due to this bug.
My Matchmaking Rating (MMR) also took a hit, compounding the problem.
Since the game doesn’t restore lost rating from bugs, this is a major issue for anyone seriously climbing in RBGs.
Additional Details:
There was no connection loss at any point during the process. Blizzard should be able to verify this through logs, confirming the issue wasn’t caused by a client-side problem.
After accepting the queue, I saw a few names in the chat window from the instance group.
Using this information, I whispered one of the players who had successfully joined the match to ask for details. They confirmed the group had two healers, meaning my role was filled, but I was still locked out.
This issue seems tied to the interaction between accepting a queue and traveling through a town portal.
Why This Matters:
Not only did I lose significant rating and MMR, but there’s no current way to address such situations via the support system. There was no ticket option for reporting this kind of issue, which left me with no way to reach out directly to Blizzard Support.
What I’m Hoping For:
Blizzard to investigate and fix this bug to prevent it from affecting other players.
Improved support options to address rating-related bugs, especially for competitive content like Blitz RBGs.
Awareness among players to avoid potentially triggering the same issue.
If anyone else has experienced something similar or has advice on how to navigate this situation, feel free to chime in. Hopefully, Blizzard will take notice and address this quickly.
Thanks for reading, and I hope this helps raise awareness!
You would need to submit a bug report ingame (EU) or create an US bug report thread about that. But checking it over, it seems that using any teleport/portalling during accepting the queue may confuse the loading screen from previous reports.
The solution would be to wait out till you get phased in the queue or if it returns you back into the queue again.
Not going to happen, as Customer Support will not remove any penalty related to leaving Rated Battleground or Battleground Blitz, even involuntarily.
If you meant to create a ticket about this, it’s intentional you can’t. Even if you managed to, they would say they cannot.
You could move this thread for feedback towards any appropriate non-support forum as Support doesn’t handle feedback.
I do appreciate the well written post as well, thank you for taking the time.
I’m afraid that game masters wouldn’t be able to change or restore lost rating (even if it occurred because of a bug), which is why there’s no category for this sort of thing. We do not have any plan at present to change our scope of support for how we handle bugs (which would require the developers to give game masters the ability to verify this sort of issue, and change a player’s rating), and would therefore not be looking to add new categories for this kind of bug.
You can report this bug to our developer via the in-game tool. QA and our developers have the tools needed to verify and fix this sort of thing (game masters do not).
Sorry for your match and the lost rating, I do hope however that this helped clear a few things up. Good luck with your next matches!
Over one THOUSAND guild banks was completely wiped due to a bug in the TWW patch. A few lucky ones got a handfull of mageweave restored, the rest got nothing.
Blizzard don’t care about “side effects” anymore unfortunately - we are on our own
Blizzard outsourced the vast majority of Customer Support who deal with the tickets, so they’re unable to do anything, as far as I can tell, related to anything in-game.
Even if you managed to raise a ticket, you’d firstly be sent an auto-response suggesting you clear your cache and WTF folders and check wowhead. If you persisted, you might get through to a real person who still couldn’t do anything and would direct you to making a bug report post on the US forums (for which you require a level 10+ character on a US server).
The EU don’t have a bug report forum.
There is, however, both a “suggestion” option and a bug report option in-game, following the “?” button on your main menu. Apparently this goes into a pile that the devs see/have access to.
It does sound like there’s a way to avoid the situation though, so at least there’s that.
Blizzard is so big that they can do seemingly everything they want. One could thing that local consumer authorities would have something to say about that.
The community council members from Europe can’t even post on the forum. They have to make an US-account.
The suggestion box is just like a box with a paper shredder on the other side.
