Why blizzard do not just post a survey on the forums where people already post opinions baffles me, but it is what it is.

Opt-in + surveys, it’s not a great combination to get useful data.
Timer or a death count? i see no difference
you die plenty someone will leave
you miss tiime because you die plenty of times? someone will leave or be toxic
Instead of fixing issues that community pointed out in multuple videos and texts on the internet.
They think this is what it’s needed
i would want to see a data they are pulling from for these stupid changes
just like from DF to TWW i want to see a data or whatever it is to know why the hell they changed how stops work in m+ right now
The problem with them being on the forum is that participants may be selective with the surveys they complete.
Whereas if you are randomly selected to participate in a survey every few weeks, participants may be more likely to complete the survey regardless of aim/content (multiple surveys are going on at times from what im aware but i am not invited to complete them all for example).
They likely have some surveys they may aim at certain demographics.
You are usually asked not to discuss the surveys you are sent also, i suppose not to influence others. Them being on the forum could lead to influenced resonses if available like that to complete.
Honestly this would probably be a good thing, if deaths are linked to key competition then blizzard might start to notice how much ridiculous 1 shots are and might actually tone everything down. I doubt it but at this point it couldn’t hurt.
because our opinions don’t matter. Only the “important” people’s opinion do, who apparently speak for all of us.
Currently, according to the IcyVeins Staff writer who apparently is only 15 judging by the text he wrote, I’m super excited to soon be able to roll a “snekman” tinker, necromancer or bard…
If they had asked me instead of a proxy the answer would not have been to their liking.
because my answer would have been “Instead of wasting time on blatant cash grabs like this garbage that gets regurgitated yearly in wishlists, howsabout you fix the existing classes you already have”
The hilarious irony of the quoted post being that actual high end players like Max, Quazii and Dratnos are generally MUCH more in touch with the reality of the average player’s experience than the wannabe-elitists that have more often than not themselves barely progressed past 10s,yet still feel the need to summarily dismiss the opinion of anyone who hasn´t reached their “elite” level of play as irrelevant
Doubtful they plan to change it. Sounds unwise even for the company that is famous for their questionable decisions. But they might add something like that to the timer-based M+ – as separate stand-alone M+ mode for older, slower people. Why not? Let people play what they like and have a group PvE progression of their own.
Need to see how it will work if they will implement it in game, if groups won’t be attached to timer, their rosters can be more flexible, even u can sacrifice 1 dps for 1 additional healer (who knows, maybe it will be new meta 2 heals, 2 dps and 1 tank), with such situation it will open new slots for healers and make healing easier than now, what can make healing more attractive, and with this tanking process will be more easier what can also attract more players for tanking role.
Ofc it’s just my opinion, but I think need to engage more ppl to test this feature.
The main criteria is those who pay and play the game. There really is not another one. Everyone who has an account has access to the forums. Their account can easily be tagged either active or inactive, which can be used to validate their response in any survey, or even allow them to participate. There is no need to randomise anything, this is not a political forum where you cannot poll every single voter. Blizzard can poll every single player without batting an eyelid through forum interaction. You could even add a poll to the battle net log in app.
I will be honest, I am not a fan of the death counter option. It just seems farcical as some will just slow the run down as people have already said. I will never partake in runs like that myself.
But after that is said, I am even more against the current system. It is blatantly obvious the majority do not like the toxicity the current system creates. There are a minority that shout the praises with the current system, and are quite vocal about telling others to “just” find a community. This ignores that fact the people do not “just” find those communities easily. And quite often they do not live up to the expectations of the people in them. The only option for a lot of people is the premade grouping system.
Another indication that the current system is not working is by the post made by Blizzard themselves. They would not do this unless the engagement has gone down and that usually means drastically.
My personal preference is get rid of the timer and get rid of the depletion system. They serve no purpose in pugs, and only create tension. Make a leader board for those that want to chase times and level of difficulty. Make it so you cannot do a M+4 until you have completed a 3. Do that for each instance individually if you really want to gate it, which is a favourite stunt from blizzard. MMO is about that feeling of progression; the backwards penalty implementation was never going to sit well with people who play MMOs.
Sending them by email can help to receive responses from a far wider variety of players including those who do not engage with the forums (which i imagine there is a lot of players who dont).
They can also send them out based on their own records - account age, average time spent playing per session/week/month, playing 1 or more blizzard games, previous responses in past surveys, etc.
The forum is limited.
You’re definitely not wrong but mostly just about those people. I feel like those 3 tend to be exceptions and there are a LOT of high end players that are most definitely out of touch.
I think that this assumption conflates 2 things.
All 3 of those people have 2 things in common: They are both high end players, AND content creators.
My guess would be that they seem more in touch with what the community thinks because they are interacting with it in a weekly basis. They have a huge amount of players interacting in their streams/videos that share their opinions.
Being a top level player will not make you see the problems that a game has, but interacting with thousands of player has a way higher chance to do that.
In the case of those 3, definitely. However there are multiple examples of content creators that prove this theory wrong.
This can either have to do with them not listening to their community, not paying attention, or simply deciding to not take their communities’ opinions to heart.
Luckily at least 2 of the 3 named earlier are in a position of such influence that they are actually capable of causing changes by speaking up.
This is certainly part of it.
But there´s another big factor: being Humble. And I think we can safely say that that does not apply to most of the dissociated elitists…
Becuase most people don´t even raid heroic or run 10 (formerly 20s), statistics of the last dozen seasons or so pretty clearly show that the vast majority of M+ runs were <10s (which I think is a big part of why that was chosen as teh level for new m0).
But even players like myself that do clear heroic and get KSM season after season can still remember what it was like when we played even worse, and can therefore relate and understand how the game is at their level, especially when /if we still engage at that level on alts.
Long story short, you don´t need a youtube channel or twitch stream to not be an egocentric douche and not punch down 24/7
I do not think humble would be the description that I would choose for max but I get your point .
Although, I think that most of the people that play at their level are closer to his mindset that the “perception” the forums have for “elitists”. Truth be told, the forums attract people with way too much time and way too high of an investment on the game.
Here’s a more radical idea: Replace timer and death limits by “Number of times hit by an avoidable/interruptible ability”. Because deep down that is what causes the issue in failed M+ keys.
