Had this exact problem, @Saryzan's solution worked for me.
I suddenly have this problem too, did everything that was suggested, no luck. I first had the Blizzard agent went to sleep problem, but after removing it and installing it again, i'm now stuck at the logging in part. Type in my e-mail and password, authenticator pops up, approve and blam back to the part where i need to put my e-mail and password.
My account works fine on both wowsite as on blizzard site.
Also WoW works fine when i avoid the applauncher

I had this problem a few months ago. Googled it, and ended up at a thread on the diablo forums that offered a super simple fix that sounded too good to be true, but what do you know it did work in my case so I'd suggest giving it a try regardless.

I would like to know why my Battle.net Agent is so super hardstuck on each start after i cleared the cache but in all my anger i simply wrote a little script that does all the steps i need to do (kill agent, clear agent cache and restart agent).
Super annoying but i hope that this will be resolved one day.

Hey folks,
Nevertheless can we check if this works for anyone at this point? :
*Logout from your Launcher and then close it down
*Go into Start > Search and type in %LOCALAPPDATA% and look for Battle.net, Blizzard and/or Blizzard Entertainment folders. If you don't have all 3, that's okay just delete the ones you do have.
* Then do the same for the following paths as well: %APPDATA%, %TEMP%, %PROGRAMDATA%

Thank you. This worked for me.
I had this two days ago for the first time and a clean reinstall did the trick but error came back soon enough.
Also, i had multiple gb in my programdata. Your client should really clean that up itself!
Today I had the same issue again. Deleting folders worked again but not really a viable fix.
You should really look into a solid fix for this issue.

this worked for me by deleting the temp app locations as mentioned above
Okay I think I fixed it by deleting some things in in the registry.
A bit late but whatever.
Open battle.net, when it says that the agent went to sleep, open the task manager.
Kill Agent.exe and all battle net processes (agent.exe may reapear, kill it again)
Launch battle.net as admin.

Just chiming in to say I started having this issue around the 27th as well.
Every day when I boot I clean the cache, uninstall Battle.net, reinstall Battle.net.
I am also unable to use the "one click"-auth, it just sends me back to the login.
I have to manually enter the code.
Tiring as !@#$, and with the amount of people have this issue I am no longer inclined to do a reinstall of Wintendo.
Must be related to Bnets code.

One thing to note, I use "appear as offline" a lot.
Today I booted into Battle.net with it enabled (and got this issue as always).
I haven't really thought about if I always have that when it borks.
Just wanted to write that here.

had same problem fixed on it's own after a while
its 18-08 and still not fixed. tried everything, but getting tired reinstalling battle.net everytime i want to play wow and several times a day. Removed Norton and all, tried all the stept, still doesnt work. Please Blizzard fix this!!
I had the same issue for a few days.
These issues started around the same time that Adobe Flash was nagging me to update and when opening the Blizzard Client, the Adobe (update?) service would briefly pop up in task manager before closing again. I tried running as admin, and reinstalling the Blizz client, etc., but in the end just updating Flash solved it for me.

Hi Guys,
Had the same issue. I closed the application the normal way(no uninstall, just closed with X), then downloaded the battlenet app from blizzard site, i started the installation, it took several minutes, but after it was done everything became good. (sorry for bad english).

thanks for contacting us on this one, and indeed this do seems like something that Grelier explained. Could you please try to work your way through this list and ensure that your antivirus and firewalls have the ports and programs set to be allowed.
Hopefully that will get this sorted for you ^^
Worked well. Thx!

for those of u on win10 this restarts agent.exe
for those of u on win10 this restarts agent.exe
This is my experience:
I play on a 2017 iMac 27". For the past (at least) year whenever I start the Battle.net app, it insists on updating Wow even though there is no update. It takes 30-60 seconds for the app to realise there is no update.
Recently, I've encountered the "Agent went to sleep" situation. I've killed Agent processes and restarted again and again. Usually, it takes 4-5 tries before I get past the "sleeping agent". Of course, during these restarts the app might decide it needs to apply an (unexisting) update.
On average, I'd say that 1-2 of 10 starts of the Battle.net launcher works for me, i.e. it starts normally and I can start the game immediately. The rest is nonexisting updates and agents that went to sleep and doesn't wake up.
I've tried all sorts of problem solving, none has worked.

Same issue...For the !@#$ sake....this is a basic application..any chance to get some half decent chimps to code down a simple thing like autoupdate? You know...something what is exists normally since decades....
