Indeed. Arena was the worst thing that was added in TBC. It ruined so much for PvE because all of a sudden stuff was getting balanced around a couple of characters standing in a little sandbox.

But that has nothing to do with opinion and everything to do with business and market strategy.
WoW has a high subscriber peak because Blizzard quickly pursued a very aggressive market strategy for the game. They rapidly expanded into a global market and localized the game to a multitude of languages. That combination of rapid market expansion and market penetration is what made the subscriber numbers climb to 12 million. They climbed to 12 million because Blizzard got the game out in every local store in every part of the world within a few years â localized for most major languages.
Thatâs a feat that most other companies spend decades on, if they even pursue it at all. Getting a foothold in China alone is a huge feat, and for WoW, the Chinese playerbase accounted for 5 million subscribers alone during WotLK.
Itâs all about market strategy and actually selling the game in as many parts of the world as possible, with a ton of advertisement and a strong local presence.
Blizzard were amazing at pulling that off. Better than anyone else at the time.

How many rolls of toilet paper I can sell in 15 years has less to do with the quality of my toilet paper and more to do with my ability to get that toilet paper into every supermarket there is in the world.

I mean⌠itâs more fun to PvP when you donât get 1-shotted by other players. Iâm sure itâs hilarious to be the one doing the 1-shotting, but as someone whoâs usually on the bottom of the PvP pile, this was a kindness, and I donât really want it to change.
I do want to see less class buttons that are âbuffs you for the next short periodâ because I waste about 5 GCDs getting ready to nuke, and thatâs annoying. However thatâs a matter of skill design. Buff buttons should not be part of your combat rotation.
Wish granted; itâs versatility

Disclaimer: I love playing quick games - Sekiro, Bayonetta, DMC, Nier: Automata, BDO. I have the mechanical skill to play WoW as it is currently, but I donât like how quick it has become. I think Blizz should focus on making a slow game fun. People want to press buttons quick because pressing a button doesnât feel impactful, it doesnât feel like the button matters.
The slow pace of the game is a great equalizer - people of various abilities can come and compete, not for their mechanical skill, but for their understanding of a deep game with stats, and many pieces of gear, talents, builds, classes, etc. WoW should test how well you know the game, not how quick you can press buttons.
Yesterday there was a thread about someone complaining about getting randomly oneshotted in Horrific Visions. That never happens, you never get randomly oneshotted. But you get oneshotted by things that happen too quick for you to notice them. You get oneshotted when thereâs so much going on around you so fast that you just canât pay attention to everything.
People now need to rely on addons to give them proper feedback, beacuse the game is too quick for you to be able to follow whatâs going on on the screen. The GCD is fine. Some skills need to be taken off it, the ones that makes sense to be able to cast them while attacking. And while weâre at it, autoattack should be completely removed. So every single attack your character makes is your own.
