Customization or not, the pandaren model is old and needs fixing. Blizzard needs to stop hiding behind “it’s a newer model” and recognize the neck seams, awful 3D beards and model stretching.
Don’t worry Drac’thyr are next to be forgotten for next decade after DF finishes
I think it’s sad that lots of these animal inspired species in wow like pandaran or worgen don’t look like savage scary Beasts, but rather like humans with fur and animal face
I think the female model is far too cute. It should have a bit more edge, at the moment it’s all fluffy and cuddly and sweet. Like you said, they are still bears. They should feel a bit more “tight” in the sense that they should not be all fat and fur.
The men are slightly hunched over from carrying the belly fat, no core strength. They look like comedy sidekicks, not serious combatants. The women are round and fluffy and look like they serve a mean yuebing, but not much else apart from that.
It’s just my opinion, but I think pandas (both men and women) need to be trimmed down and beefed up. Reduce waist size, increase shoulder size. Straighten the males so they walk upright instead of slouching.
Edit:
I was so disappointed with the Worgen update. They really failed to right all the wrongs on the female model. My personal checklist of Worgens’ problems
- Hips too narrow, combined with the gigantic paws the running animation just looks incredibly goofy
- Shoulders too narrow, without shoulder armour Worgen look incredibly scrawny, like wet poodles.
- The “maned upper back/neck” bit is too thick and actively prohibits armour from fitting properly. Pushes shoulder armour outside, creating a "floating appearance.
- Shoulder armour too large by at least 35%. This was most likely done to counteract the mane pushing the shoulder pads outward, but now it just looks like 2 massive floating half-orbs on each side. I think most Worgen I see in the wild turn their shoulders off, but then they look so tiny and unthreatening
So, in my humble opinion
- Worgen hips need to be increased in size drastically. Let the girls have some badonkadonk! Beef up the thighs as well, but leave the paws alone, or even reduce paws in size. That should take care of the awkward running animation
- Get rid of the “mane” and turn it into an actual hair style
- Bring out the shoulders and beef up the arms. Get rid of the “wet poodle” look, make them naturally threatening
- With the gained space by reducing the neck/upper back blockage, drastically reduce shoulder armour size to a normal level
Then Worgen would be fine.
You must be young, like born post 2000s young.
Male Pandas are lit a cross between Baloo from the Jungle Book and Poo from Kung Fu Panda which is probably what they were going for, while the female look too soft and squishy kinda like red pandas.
But again they’re pandas not actual bears, in a sense that if bears are wolves, then pandas are puppers. They are that devolved from the Ursidae family tree.
If anything they should’ve made them more racoon-like say like Rocket from the MCU while keeping the current size.
I fail to see how my age comes into this but ok?
Blood elves were a specific request of the chinese market, who demanded a horde race which didn’t look repulsive, as unfortunately all horde races did with the vanilla models.
The original planned races for TBC where Pandaren for Alliance and Worgen for Horde. That change requested by China (who also didn’t like the idea of their beloved pandas taking sides) was one of the reasons why TBC suffered several delays on its launch.
Technically, Blood Elves have been designed to cater to East Asian women specifically. Men will play the monster, East Asian women won’t. They want to play the pretty girls, and have handsome men to play with them. But because the women didn’t want to play Horde, the men also chose Alliance to play with their girlfriends and wives.
So Blizzard gave Elves to the Horde rather than the Alliance to try and counteract the (IIRC massive) population imbalance in East Asia.
What pandaren…
in game model contradicts trailers and official art
Concept art has them look more feral and dangerous though. But they chose to go with a more “life like” representation of pandas as cuddly, goofy little “almost bears”. Maybe to appease the Chinese market, who loves their pandas… who knows.
Fact is, they’re incredibly unpopular, and I think it’s because they’re just too cuddly and goofy to really fit the game’s aesthetics.
Things apparently not too silly for Warcraft:
- Cow people that can turn into cats
- British werewolves that can turn into cats
- Kalecgos bedded the Sunwell
- Blue russian hooved davy jones baras from outer space
- Magic space mummies
- Gnomes
- Goblins
- Egyptian Cat Centaurs
- Elune bedded a deer
- Varian Wrynn split into two people and did the super saiyan fusion dance to become whole again
Things apparently too silly for warcraft:
- pandas
I don’t think it’s about silly or not silly, it’s doing what will get them the biggest return. And judging by how popular Pandaren are, it’s no wonder they get neglected so much. Even if a fix increased their population by 75% it’d hardly make a dent in overall metrics.
I really support Pandaren getting fixes, but I don’t think Blizzard even has the developer resources to fix the actually burning stuff, let alone passion projects like Pandaren…
You can say that about worgen or dracthyr, as they all look like a bunch of furries in-game for a REASON. And how do I know so? Because DA got blasted by that art when tumblr died. To the point I had to stop using said site altogether.
Worgens don’t look much different from the trailers? especially if you consider all greymane appearances, dracthyr look exactly as promo art?
What has static art have to do with in-game models? What are you on exactly because I’d like to have some as well.
I guess wowbrain is overloaded with too much information, reread what i posted.
Static art has to do much with in game models, it’s how blizz artists see them
The timing of MoP alongside the damned kung fu panda movies has had irreversible consequences

Fact is, they’re incredibly unpopular, and I think it’s because they’re just too cuddly and goofy to really fit the game’s aesthetics.
for the rest of time lol.
Doesn’t matter if they’re unpopular or not, doesn’t mean they should receive attention alongside other races. This is a videogame community, not a vote, and Pandaren receiving customisation updates does not affect anyone the same way that gameplay changes do. Hell, Pandaren have had a total of three (3) references in DF compared to almost every other race, and were criminally left out in 10.2. (as were several other wild god worshipping races, but since this thread is about pandaren I’d prefer to keep it on that subject.)
To argue that they go against Warcraft aesthetics is completely unjust considering they were the brainchild of Samwise- IE - The guy who literally coined Warcraft.
I have spoken my peace. Serenity to you all <3
They may be cuddly and goofy, but the whole expansion is about how we, the heroes, ruin the peaceful people’s home, unleash corruption with the civillians dead or worse and the land devastated, then barely save things from falling apart, repeat the cycle for several times in a row… and after it was over, all Pandaria ever got was even more destruction, first from the Legion, then from N’Zoth. This is nothing like a disney cartoon, it’s a story about the horrors of war made far better than BfA.
