In July, Blizzard closed my main account, apparently for using “hacks”. There was no objectionable software on my machine, so I assumed Warden must have falsely flagged something benign and I appealed. I had to wait almost 2 weeks for CS to get back to me only to be told that the ban was correct. I got lucky that one of my friends decided to take matters into their own hands and pinged 100k+ people in a Discord. Some people came forward and offered to forward the issue to Blizzard, which led to a prompt overturn of the ban and my account was reinstated.
Last week, Blizzard closed my main account again, giving the same reason. Customer Support gave me canned responses claiming that they’d done a thorough review (which is hard to believe given the above) and that the ban won’t be overturned. They didn’t even bother addressing the points I’d brought up in the appeal. I removed my friend’s ability to ping 100k people since clearly doing it that way is not sustainable (and the Discord server was more or less unusable during that time) and it’s the Customer Support that needs to fix it on their end.
Customer Support seems to think that it makes perfect sense that I fought for nearly two weeks to get my account reinstated, spent bunch of money on the game and then… started hacking? Unfortunately it looks like the only way you’ll get an actual investigation and not someone who will give you canned responses and rubber stamp anything, is to go public. So here I am.
After almost 20 years of playing this game, with half of that spent on moderating WoW fansites and Discords, bug reporting, theorycrafting and developing simc, it’s hard to believe that it will be ended by an overzealous anti-cheat and an incompetent Customer Support.
