Let us Region Transfer, It’s been long enough. Please blizzard
This has been said time and time again when scrolling through forums - Blizzard give us an option to transfer accounts across regions.
I’m originally from the U.K and have played WoW for yearsssss like many - all those hours put into earning things like mounts, achievements, pets etc
Now i live in Australia and have done for the last 4 years.
The ping isnt an issue but anytime i want to play servers are dead because its EU - where i am in Australia is +9/10 hours ahead of England so playing with old friends is now a no go.
The new friends, family and work mates ive made over the years that play WoW i can’t play with because they are on OCE whilst im stuck on EU.
I don’t mind having to start characters all over again from scratch but those things that I’ve earned like Feats of Strength achievements (they may only be silly like the wow anniversary ones), mounts that took hundreds upon hundreds of runs to acquire, PvP rewards and so on i do not wan’t to lose.
BLIZZARD give us a way to transfer from region to region - there is plenty of people who want it and will happily pay. I highly doubt that in today’s technological age that there “Isn’t any way possible” to get a account transferred from region to region - hell i don’t care if i have to buy the game again just let us transfer.
As much as I’d love to change regions and would pay even 100 euro for it, I sadly doubt we’ll ever get it. As far as I know, there are certain technical issues which make this impossible to implement.
This is especially true for the US/EU region, since moving from one to the other isn’t that uncommon.
Usually people mention technical differences between the EU and the US character data as the reason. But I’m pretty sure these could be worked around if they wanted to.
Legal issues might be a reason. Especially when talking about the asian version.
Yeah but those issues are regarding to what can be shown in game and what can not I think. So you would probably notice a few more quests, achievements or different quest texts, between versions.
Maybe I’m missing something here, but that shouldn’t matter for transferring the account.
I’ve always got the impression it’s because the EU & US games are slightly different so transferring the character from one to the other might break the character. Both EU & US characters can be uploaded to the beta realms because it’s an identical game.
I am someone who shifted from US to EU because the ping was astronomically bad and to be able to play with a friend. It greatly astonished me that you cannot even subscribe to EU while having a US subscription active.
Yes it is but I got the impression it was 2 physically different games not one that’s been altered slightly. If it’s the latter then I don’t know why it can’t happen.
I work with a guy who got transferred from US to OCE when they opened the OCE servers and he did it fine - I don’t even care about transferring characters or levels its just things that we have worked hard for which should be in both versions - achievements, mounts, pets etc.
If i can keep all of those but have to start every character from lvl 1 i dont care
@Regra: US and OCE use the same format, are both subject to US Blizzard rules and as such that “move” is not really a region change in the same sense, just normal character transfers. As far as I am aware, there are no Oceanic (or Latin American) accounts as such.
really just make your achievement/mount/toy/transmog collection battle.net wide instead of just region wide would solve a lot of the issues… Im also from canada and moved to Europe and I did make the switch but not having certain collectables like the AOTC moose, or WoD challenge mode weapon skins that you have earned, but are stuck on servers where your only going to be online during the graveyard shift and are never going to be obtainable on your main account is a serious blow…
I understand that there is a different licensing structure between the regions and dont actually have a problem with being required to get a new licence/sub to play on a different region, but as it stands I can make 8 US accounts on the same battle.net and they would all have access to the same collections but not the 1 EU licence.
You can abuse weekly resets with cross-region transfers. There’s other aspects at play, mostly related to international trade and agreements, different things having different values in different regions. Also, there maybe issues with character names and symbols used in the databases (although I doubt that).
EDIT: Also, when you buy a product, you only get it on that region. There’s so much legal stuff that goes into this region locking of products. It exists in all types of games, but it is obfuscated a bit so player don’t notice it all that much.
Imagine if you’re trying to region transfer, but you don’t own BFA in the region you’re trying to transfer to. But not just that, your subscription is based on EU trade agreements. So you need a new subscription, too.
I think the biggest problem on blizzard’s side is licensing… there are differences between the regions (and thats also why blizzard restricts token sales/boosts from people who play on servers with an out of region battle.net account).
I understand why region transfers of characters wouldn’t be possible, but at the very least it should be possible to make your unlocked collections actually account wide, that would go a long way to make you feel like you didn’t just totally start over when you move.
and buying the expansion is a good point too, but keep in mind you only actually have to buy the expansion in US/EU… Asian servers dont have expansion purchases, you just buy gametime and your good to jump into BFA.
I’m also from UK living in Australia and it really is quite annoying.
If they even made the account bound stuff like mounts and achievement roll over to US it wouldn’t be a problem but having to do it all over again is just bleh - don’t even know where to start!
Bought the expac and boosted a hunter to 120 and that’s all I’ve done.
If you want someone to start over with give me a shout, I’m in Sydney
