I felt lazy and bought a level 70 boost for 60 euros. Yet to find out an hour later they offer level 70 boost with the War Within bundle for 50 euros.
The GM could not help or give me discount for the 70 euro bundle either. I literally feel scammed.

It’s not Blizzards fault you didn’t look before you bought it. The last few expansions have come with a boost.
The only thing I can think you can do is refund the boost and buy the expansion.

You could say that, yeah. But should there really be an option to buy the boost alone for more than it costs with a new expansion package? It’s kind of not given that it’s included in other offers for less money either - and this isn’t some typical black friday offer for a short time either.
The boost is always there, the expansion is not.
You have been playing since 2014 so should really know about this.

First time I’ve bought a boost. I have been aware that they have been included, but not cheaper with the bundles unfortunately.
The answer to this is twofold.
Yes, they are offering the boost seperately because you can only buy the expansion upgrade once per WoW account - and you can only use the boost on the same WoW account you activate the expansion for.
Also, when you buy the upgrade - despite the game not being out yet - and use the boost that comes with the upgrade, you will have a much harder time getting a refund on this upgrade because you have already used a substantial part of it (the boost), even if you decide to not continue playing the next expansion after all, your expansion purchase will count as a sale-through for reporting purposes.
Sure, but why don’t the original boost come with the bundle the first time you buy it then? It’s kind of doomed to make customers unhappy the way it is now.
I would have a way better understanding of it if it was a third party company selling the services.
If I’m a vendor offering a thing and a customer comes into my place and says “I want the thing for full price” because they didn’t look around the shop for bundles or other deals, I’m not going to deny the customer coming in willing to pay full price the opportunity to pay full price
Sure I might be hurting my downline because that customer, upon leaving the store with thing and noticing that he could have had thing for less, might not return - but you better believe that Blizzard’s business folks have calculated the potential losses and gains from not offering the bundle at the point of sale of a higher priced component and the answer was “$”
Now what I’m wondering here is why the GM couldn’t help you if you bought the boost and then had buyer’s remorse within the hour. Like even if you didn’t get into the automated refund process, did they give you a reason why you couldn’t get a refund exception after one hour?
Edit: I might have misread and you might have actually used the boost immediately after buying it, instead of inquiring about a refund within the hour. That’s why, then.
Exactly. The difference is the monopoly Blizzard have for the service. There are no other company selling the services, at least legally.
I reached out before the hour, but the boost had been used on the character within that time.
I asked if it was possible to get the 70 euro bundle if I payed the 10 extra, but they couldn’t manipulate the prices for specific customers either.
That’s not what a monopoly is, though. Blizzard don’t have a monopoly in the MMORPG space, there’s tons of contenders that you can give your money to.
That’s like saying Adidas holds a monopoly on Adidas shoes. They’re the only people to legally manufacture them, but there’s tons of companies offering differently branded sporty footwear.
If this company’s decision to not refund your purchase or offer you a discount on a product based on it irks you enough, you can vote with your wallet and take your hard-earned cash to another company to continue playing an MMORPG. That would not be possible in a monopoly.
However, this particular company is so convinced the product it offers trumps the perceived slights in paying for it that they have calculated that individuals being angry about their services and their pricing will not hurt the bottom line enough to warrant this kind of exception.
They don’t have monopoly of the MMORPG “world”, no. They certainly do have monopoly of game services within World of Warcraft. There are no contenders for the service or any in-game feature you can buy for real money. Which is why I’m frustrated on Blizzard for marketing the boost this way in the first place.
I could have taken the bad deal for what it is if there were competition by other sellers for the services.
My english isn’t the best, but you get what I mean.
Edit: Yup, they probably have calculated that, since I’m still playing the game
They used to be different, but it is what it is. They want to keep up the perceived value of the boost (“look you get this service that we say is worth 60 Euros included in this purchase of a future expansion you don’t know anything about! Ain’t that a great deal”). It’s the same way they sell the 6-month and 12-month game time streaks by putting the mounts on the shop for ~25 bucks - to give you a perceived value of what you’re getting “on top”.
I’m sorry you overpaid.
In my opinion, one of the core reasons the expansions pre-sell as well as they do is by including the services that apply to the current live game (boosts, pets, mounts, what have you) that have such a perceived high value because Blizzard sets the value themselves. Us lifers have enough sunk-cost-fallacy applied to this whole deal that we’ll just buy the expansions anyway.
Definitely. All I wished for was a pop-up/notification for “hey, we got this deal for you, including the service you’re trying to buy” - none the less if the deal would’ve been cheaper or more expensive.
Anyway, case’s closed. My tilt is close to over, even though I will always remember to double check their store if I ever gonna buy something else from Blizzard again lol.
Did you buy the boost directly from the game, because the store in the launcher or on the web site has following paragraph: “An Enhanced Level 70 Character Boost is also included in all editions of the upcoming The War Within™ expansion.”
Granted, the in-game shop should also have it rather than going directly to “Pay now” page, or very least the FAQ where it sends you if shift-click.
A monopoly is where one company control everything in one field, controlling your own product is not a monopoly.
Why would another company sell Blizzard’s boost?
It’s their company, why would they let another company sell their product, Imagine an Apple store selling Samsung phones.
You really shouldn’t use words you don’t understand, like monopoly. If there was only on MMO then it would be a monopoly.

I guess you were too lazy to read?
I understand you feel bad about it. I would too in your shoes. However, this isn’t a scam and something on you. There’s a lesson there to do a little bit of research next time.
Alright, the conversation is now off topic. Please try to be nice with each other.
Bjønnefitta, I’m sorry that we aren’t able to offer you a refund for the used Boost. You can find our refund policy on this page if needed.
