Blizzard Paradoxes

Can someone explain Blizzard’s thought process behind UH DK’s last talent tree tier?

How can it be possible, in 3 expansion updates going into the 4th, that the talent with far longer cool-down is less powerful?

Summon Gargoyle has a 3 min CD and provides a lot less DPS or Damage than the 1.25 min CD Unholy Frenzy?!?!?!?!

The fact that it was baseline in Legion, but made a talent in BFA is more laughable.

I think they didn’t factor in the legendary shoulders when they nerfed it. Tbh, the dps between UF and gargoyle isn’t miles apart (usually in UF’s favor), but UF is alot more flexible, st, aoe, cleave, it buffs it all. Gargoyle just does ST.

So I’m to understand that you are OK with it like this?
If that’s so, I’m sorry to have brought it up.

In a normal game, double CD should mean a lot more burst and balance out in the long run.

As it is now UF is higher burst and lower CD.
More, I don’t know how you play, but when I use Gargoyle I end up with 15~20% less DPS (in the burst phase) than UF, because of the lower haste.

I only bring this up because I love the necromancer feel of UH. For me, more undead minions means more fun.

Oh by no means am I ok with it, but I believe that is the reason gargoyle is the waste of a talent it is atm.

As for how I play, I use UF, because our st dps is terrible, and UF brings most to that, ironically, over the supposed st talent.

You did start this by saying;

Just because I’ve got an idea on the thought process you asked about, doesn’t mean I’m ok with it. It’s not like they actually go into the office, sit and down say ‘Right, how can we mess with dk’s this time?’ At least I hope not.

Imo the gargoyle talent should be scrapped, the baseline cd be returned and new talent based on dots/diseases replace it (Meaning you have aotd as the necromancer/summoning class fantasy talent, this new one for the plaguebringer class fantasy and UF remains as the dark knight part of class fantasy.).

I agree, the fact that the Legendary Item allowed you to have both talents pretty much negated the issue of which was better.

It’s probably more of a gimmick. I don’t play Unholy at all, but I assume Summon Gargoyle has much less of an impact on your rotation that Unholy Frenzy does? Wherein Unholy Frenzy’s value as a spell largely relies on how well you execute your rotation. Summon Gargoyle is a spell you cast on top of your normal rotation for a bit of extra DPS, somewhat like Dancing Rune Weapon.

They both have minor impacts to your rotation, but gargoyle is just really undertuned. UF you drop festering strike for the duration, gargoyle you focus spending rp for the duration.

Actually, that’s a good point. The legion unholy frenzy synergised with DA too, more SD procs, more rp spent, more damage. So that’s another source of damage increase to gargoyle lost.

there is also the fact that in this expantion secondary stats are greatly reduced.

in tomb/antorus i was running with 20-25% hate and 100-120 mastery, this made deathcoil and arbiter super powerfull.

currently, due to the demand for haste, i run 20ish haste and 30% mastery so shadow dmg is lackluster.

however, they are buffing unh on most spells by 15% on 8.2, lets see how it goes

Except DRW also impacted your rotation as blood because you would often pool you unneeded DSs and use them for extra damage during DRW’s duration.
Same with BB for AOE damage.

Gargoyle was actually good in Legion and even better with the Dark Arbiter build, even more so if you had the shoulders lego.

Now, it’s just a weak spell with pitiful damage and a long CD.

When I think about how awesome the class was in Legion and how much of a joke it is now I wanna crawl under my bed and cry…
