Blizzard - Please do something about how trade channels work!

As title says.

Let’s imagine a new player logs on for the first time. They cannot chat in the general or trade chat, they don’t know how to leave “Trade chat: services” - and all they see is spam spam and more spam. Many of theese boosters also conduct questionable (at best) additional services.

Is this what you want any new or returning players to see?

It further discourages interaction through chat. Not that people talk much anyway.

I do leave the services chat, but why in your wildest dreams did you even create a channel to allow this behaviour in the first place? Why is it on by default? Do something.

EDIT: With todays technology - it should not be hard to create filters based on AI or let players have an option to enable such a feature and display it like a tooltip when you enter your first major city.

From my understanding it seems blizzard does not care about new players or else the new player experience in retail would not be in such a mess. I think the main problem with wow is the game director Ion hazzikotas. That man only care about top end mythic raiding and m+ dungeon content. He designs the game around that. Hell back in 2006 he was the guild leader of a top wow guild called Elitist Jerks. Also he was the founder of the icyveins website. You can see how a man like that only designs the game around top end competitive stuff and ignores everything else.

So that it’s not in all the other channels.

It is for all the new or returning players.

No, legitimate sellers are in the trade service channels.

Third party dodgy sites will spam anywhere and are reported constantly.

Removing trade services will not alleviate the people breaking the rules. It will just mean more people have to use other channels.

I get that. I just don’t get why blizzard has this activated as default. Also. If it’s such a big problem, with todays technology - it should not be hard to create filters based on AI or let players have an option to enable such a feature and display it like a tooltip when you enter your first major city.

Please read my above comment on why blizzard is doing this. I answered it clearly. To put it in one sentence on why blizzard allows this is because Boosts sell the wow token.

I’ve basically ignored the both Trade chats since I started because of the spam and because I don’t even understand what they’re saying.

But boost for gold are not against the rules and are allowed to be advertised in the trade services channel. They are doing nothing wrong.

A brief tutorial on channels wouldn’t be a bad idea. Whether or not they’d pay attention to it, is another :dracthyr_hehe_animated:

Most of the veterans helping in newcomer chat will talk them through how to leave or stick it in another tab but not having to explain those basics would be great.

They should just default Trade and Trade Services as Off. Later when players know a bit more about the game they can join these channels if they wish to avail of their wares.

Honestly its like a containment zone so it was that if they ever went outside of this channel they could be punished for not using the correct channel, before they had a correct channel any arguement to punish selling services on old trade are built on sand

the issue is that they made it a default channel, not that it exists.

I agree. I changed my topic name to better reflect my point.

The problem with Boost Spam is the chocolate spoils the fake meat taste.

More seriously, I’d be happy if boosting wasn’t supported in game in any form, it would make reporting everyone much much easier, there would be no grey areas. Sure it’s “always existed” but it’s out of hand now and most gamers would stop it if it wasn’t allowed, at least publicly, which is where the problem exists really.

Unfortunately many of the forum regulars are now, or have in the past, been involved in providing legitimate boost services that it’s impossible to have a sensible discussion against the vested interests.

yeah, it looks like blizz really decided to go all in for boosting activities
first they added this event, then they broke chat so everytime you log in you get this annoying service channel to spam their boosts for real money, then you get rekt in plunder at start several time and then log back to retail when you see those service-ads starting “you suck at plumber? go at [edited]google dot com and earn your fomo rewards”

fantastic, where can i ask for return my gold for wasted subscription?

I have reported quite a lot of them myself, and they will be back on the next day with a slightly different name. This implies that Blizzard is indeed taking action, but those people just create new accounts (trial?) as quickly as they are removed.

There’s very little Blizzard can do. It’s probably for the best that they are spamming in the Services channel, just leave it and the spammers are gone. I am just slightly irritated that the Services channel got reactivated on all my characters with 10.2.6. Now I have to manually disable it again. My one QoL request would be that disabling channels would be faster/easier or at least if there was an option to leave a channel on all characters, not just one

There’s an addon called “leave spam channels” already

Nice, will check it out. Thanks

policies to further our goal of making the gameplay experience as fair and welcoming as possible. Since we last updated our policies, we have found that an increasing disturbance of the gameplay experience has been caused by organizations excessively advertising various non-traditional services in-game.

As of today, we will now prohibit organizations who offer boosting, matchmaking, escrow, or other non-traditional services, including those offered for gold. World of Warcraft accounts found to be in violation of this policy are subject to account actions. These actions can include warnings, account suspensions and, if necessary, permanent closure of the disruptive World of Warcraft account(s). Organizations operating across multiple realms and excessively advertising non-traditional in-game sales are contrary to the terms and conditions of the Blizzard End-User License Agreement (EULA).

This policy update does not restrict individuals or guilds from using the provided in-game tools (“trade channel” chat) to buy or sell in-game items or activities for in-game currency. However, “boosting communities”, especially those who operate across multiple realms, are no longer permitted.

We urge all such organizations to cease doing business in World of Warcraft immediately, in order to maintain uninterrupted access to the game.

or has this changed since this post?

It’s always been a never ending battle, at least they are battling though!

I don’t know what they can do to totally eradicate it.

Even back when I started we had spammers in all channels and those various whispers, either claiming to be a GM or that you’d won a mount or something and please go to this incredibly dodgy link to claim etc.

And who can forget the dead bodies spelling out website names in Org and SW.
