Hot take, all elves belong to Revendreth for a few thousand years first.

It just works.

Funny because that’s where all my blood elves are going!

I don’t think “mind-altering effects” were ever really shadow magic. I’ve personally always seen it as an inherent trait of both shadow magic and holy magic (and I’m not just talking about the more explicit instances of this which we’ve seen). When one’s mind is being influenced because of the Void, it results in “insanity”. The Light’s produce is “faith”. Preachers and the like are really just the Light’s answer to madness-inducing eldritch grimoires.

So basically, mind control is part of either force’s toolkit. That’s my interpretation, anyway.

As for the whole Domination thing… that reminds me of how I was expecting some kind of thematic rework for the Discipline spec back when SL was freshly announced. It’s even more necessary now imo since they given Holy some Shadow spells back. Death’s a big part of some priest cults and most of those have nothing to do with either Light or Shadow - hello Bwonsamdi - so it’d make sense to give Discipline its own identity by tying it to Death Magic, especially now that we have the Shadowlands where Death Magic looks vastly different from how Death Knights employ it. Maybe this “Domination magic” will be incorporated in such a thematic rework. If it ever happens. God knows with Blizz.

Since when was druidism not about this aspect? Have they gaslit themselves into thinking that all druids do is grow forests?

I thought it was fairly easy to see in Legion quests where Velen was involved.

I suppose it would’ve been nice to see it beyond Legion as well but draenei had their time in the spotlight. Time to focus on the humans again!

deus ex machina

hides all trace of magic and uses it to teleport into your house to piddle on your carpet but you’ll never know because its occult and esotoric magic that you cant actually detect at all

To an extent. The problem is that Illidan inevitably overshines him so the cinematics come across as less “Velen changes his mind” and more “Illidan says something and everyone agrees because Illidan is right”.

That said I barely remember the quests from Mac’Aree so it might have been stronger there

What I remember most from Macaree is that Velen and the draenei being rescued by the Naaru is now, somehow, a morally questionable action that Velen is upset about.

don’t you get it? the naaru are evil imperialists who robbed the draenei of their freedom to become world-devouring demons, and instead turn them into singularly devout light-worshippers! literally SO evil!

The most memorable part of macaree is that they named it after a overwatch character and also Velen stopped an ENOUGH moment.

Actual footage of Velen realizing the deception of the Naaru after he bodyslammed his son to death in the basement

i still cannot get over the fact “velen had a son who was never mentioned before and velen forgot about” was an actual plot point

Well, in that interview Danuser says Domination magic is “suppression” rather than control and we do see this with in the new cinematic where the Anduin we know is completely suppressed and his body is just an extension of the Jailer.

My interpretation is that Domination magic is like riding shotgun in a car and someone else has the wheel while with Shadow magic you technically have the wheel but someone else tells you where to go.

Also I think it falls under the category of Death magic.

You know I always thought the vague prediction about Anduin doing something bad/serving death would be something other than “lol by mind control”. Woulda been nice to see him actually mess up or something.

Man. Garrosh making a comeback is giving me hope of him doing a fulltime return.

I would be 100% down with him coming back as our Megatron who isn’t our friend but also won’t stand for anyone else taking over either.

The money’s paw twists and he’s just another Anduin clone.

Garrosh was a good character. Was. His arc is over and we really need to stop shaking down every random old popular character down for narrative pocket change. The writers even say they regard his arc as done and if we see him, he’ll probably be headed to Maldraxxus or something.
