I’m not entirely sure if this is functioning as intended.
As a shaman, I’ve noticed that blocking only seems to work when my weapon is unsheathed. For instance, if I cast a lesser healing wave, my weapon automatically sheathes, rendering the ‘Shield Mastery’ rune useless until I unsheathe my shield to block any incoming attacks in PvP or PvE situations.
I’ve tested this in several duels with a rogue, and I haven’t managed to block any attacks while my shield is sheathed, only when it’s unsheathed.

just to clarify; this rogue was hitting you from the front right?
How would you block a attack with the shield on your back?
With that logic he should be able to block from the back.
Nah, blocking is something you actively do but you should have extra armor for attacks from behind while having the shield on your back though for realism.
This is not realism, this is world of warcraft, and on any expansion the blocker has always been able to block an attack with the weapon unshethed or not, with an exception from casting and striking the blocker from behind.
Yes, of course! Although we were tryingfrom every angle, same results.
thats interesting.
did you find out if having your shield on the back somehow reduces a rogues ability to backstab you?
if they want to have sheathed weapon/shield aka casting stop our ability to block, it would only be fair that someone stabbing us in the back (which is now covered by a shield) would do reduced damage, or have a reduced chance to crit… or something.
just trying to follow their own logic here.
Nah as someone who was a paladin main for the longest time before classic came out you couldnt block when casting like ever you cant dodge or parry ether while casting. Think its just while casting though and not just from having the shield on your back.
As I recall from the early days, any player that would stand still (AFK), seemingly impervious to attacks. If you were to incorporate realism into World of Warcraft, ensuring that players can block arrows from punny wooden trees with their shield would be a unique addition - which would cause imbalance.
If standing still with a sheathed shield doesn’t block attacks as intended, that’s certainly a bug or oversight that needs fixing. If you’re a healer and you’re not actively casting or fake casting, blocking incoming attacks wouldn’t occur unless you use the ‘/script togglesheath()’ command. /startattack does not work when targeting a friendly target, so you must toggle between sheath and unsheath manually. It’s not even possible to create a macro such as /unsheath for this purpose.
A macro like this would target an enemy player and disengage the target of your friendly;
/startattack [harm][@targettarget,harm]
/cast [harm][@targettarget,harm] attack
In my theory, this appears to be an unnoticed bug.
Cupid, I literally said with an exception of casting and striking from behind. What are you arguing here.
Sorry my brain went stupid there
Bump - has there been a fix yet?
