Tried a couple of different Proton versions (Proton 7, Proton 8, Proton 9, Proton Experimental, GE-Proton etc.) on Steam Deck, none of them worked for me, update is still crashing.

In the lutris discord some people have had luck using the umu-launcher to use the very latest proton-ge to install the game, and then switching back to lutrisā€™s default runner (wine-ge).

Iā€™ve been struggling using Proton 8.0, Iā€™ll give this a crack, thank you for the share.

Iā€™m facing the same issue. Running on Linux Mint 22 XFCE running Bottles

Looks, at least somewhat, like this is working, here is a thread on the US forums that reiterates this solution. https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/couldnt-update-after-111-now-cant-install/2044960

I am having the same BLZBNTAGT00000840 error on both of my MacBook Pro 2021 M1 Pro and MacBook Air Intel.

Can not even install the battle net app.

The topic of error is hot right now, Iā€™ve found at least 5 reddit posts with dozens of people complaining the same thing

Fresh M2 Macbook Air, similar issue here - cannot install Battle.net or open it. Crashes with this error message as well: BLZBNTAGT00000840

This worked for me, thanks for the tip!

Hello. Steamdeck user here.
I tried proton experimental, it didnā€™t work.
I tried proton 9.0-4, it didnā€™t work.
It worked using Proton 8.0-5

Thank you!

Failing on both my macs, similar to the other commenters.

Arch Linux here.

Proton Experimental - Fail
Proton 9.0-5 - Fail
Proton 8.0-5 - Fail
Proton 7.0-5 - Cant log in
GE-Proton9-20 - Fail
GE-Proton9-16 - Fail
Copying Folder to Windows, updating, running, copying back to Arch - FAIL

As of right now, it is impossible for me to update or play WoW on Linux

You should be able to start the game directly by the WoW.exe. That works for me. The Battle Net client appears to update the game, but fails to recognize that its updated and doesnt offer the launch option. Since the same bug happens with a fully updated game, the BNet launcher still thinks its not updated although it is.

Good news everyone! The new GE proton has just been updated to fix this issue :tada:

I also fixed this before the update, by copying across an updated WoW folder to the steamdeck from a PC using Warpinator, then saving the folder in the proton C: drive folder structure for battlenet.

Hope this helps

I am having this issue on a new pc build on a fresh windows install. I canā€™t download WoW and taking the old version of WoW from my old PC will not let me update.

EDIT: I changed nothing and suddenly its working.

I had this issue on arch with bottles. Starting a new bottle fixed it. Installed with ge-proton-9-20. Havenā€™t started it yet, but will probably work.

Still experiencing this issue (on Steam Deck with NonSteamLaunchers) on an attempted fresh install of Classic. Went to 10% before throwing up the error. Tried Proton Experimental and 8.0.5.

Hi bro, did you fix it?

Fixed???

How did I fix it?

Download ProtonUp-Qt, then download the newest GE-Proton9-23
Go to compatibility in steam properties and choose GE-Proton9-23 AFTER you have restarted steam.

Battlenet has an update? Do that first then try launching the game.

EZ PZ guys
