BM Hunter "Animal companion" talent

Hi,

I am wondering if the second pet you choose is just cosmetic or or if it is not what are the best second pets.

It’s the first pet of your stable. And no its not just cosmetic. Both your pets doing the same amount of damage. Except your first pet beeing able to pop cd’s like bloodlust etc.

pretty sure that the 2nd pet dps is nerfed, if you see your dps on recount/details, you’ll notice the 1st pet is doing double the dps of the 2nd.

But anyway it does not matter, it’s still the best talent for that row.

As I understand it, the dps of both is nerfed by 35%, so you get two pets doing a total of 130% damage when compared to the dps of one pet. I pair Hati (exotic tenacity) with another tenacity pet. Not certain that it actually matters which pet you have, as the abilities of your first pet are the ones that matter and the overall dps is shared (not equally) between both pets; so essentially the second pet is just along for the ride.

The choice of pet is cosmetic only (in terms of which sort of pet you use) - it does not matter if you bring a ferocity, cunning or tenacity pet as “companion”-pet nor does it matter what kind of extra family ability it has (like prowl, dispells, healing reduction or Spirit Mend).

The secondary pet will ONLY auto-attack by default, but it will use kill command and beast cleave simultaneously with the other pet when “instructed” by the player (aka, when you press multi shot or kill command).

However, the talent itself is (obviously) not cosmetic only, just like Tiddleton stated above me.

More mastery you have more joke this talent become as 2nd pet doesn’t seem to profit from mastery -at some point having 1 pet brings more DPS than 2. And then you top it with Killer instinct

Just here to confirm this. Animal companion makes both your pets do 65% damage for a total of 130%, and the specialisation/family of your second pet does not matter whatsoever and is an entirely cosmetic choice.

Thats a rough estimate, its not 30% more dmg. It was roughly 8% more KC dmg, and almost 50% less pet main ability dmg. In overall its barely 5% max more dps to use animal companion. On Fortified weeks id say goin Dire beast for 5% more haste is more dps than Animal companion  I love Bloodletting conduit combined with dire beast 3x Frenzy for almost forever.

Much appreciated guys.

It scales with mastery just fine.

It’s 30% more white swing damage. Second pet doesn’t use basic attacks though. It still ends up being a decent increase across both, better than the other talents anyway.

To be better than two horrible not means the 3rd is good… just better than the other two

In my gear, animal companion sims 4.9% over no talent, which is actually a VERY strong tier 1 talent compared to other specs/classes.

And it’s 3% over DB/KI. It’s not even close.

providing, the second pet actualy hit something, and not just stand there, what happens a lot on any movement fights, where tank moves boss, your second pet falls behind and will not attack at all at times.

Could you link a log of this? Because throughout the entirety of nyalotha i’m not sure I ever had this once outside of carapace because of how p2 room was.

I might be wrong (haven’t really tested) - but from what I’ve heard, having two pets doubles the amount of beast cleave targets you can hit. That alone makes it top tier in SL.
