BM: I don't understand what I am doing wrong

Hi team,

I have a problem with my AoE rotation and I don’t know what I am doing wrong, thus I decided to ask for a bit of help.

My ST rotation is on point. I checked with raidbot and I could outperform what they calculated.

My AoE rotation on the other hand is complete garbage. I have a small gear and I do 35-40k burst on a single target, whereas I barely touch the 20k with 2+ targets.

My rotation on MT is:

Bestial Wrath > Barbed Shot > Multi Shot > Kill Command > Multi > Barbed > Multi x3 > KC > etc
My priority is Barbed Shot, MS before a KC for the Beast Cleave proc.

Even with all of this, my dps is uber sh*t. I saw a video of a hunter doing a +22 with 445 ilvl toping 180k dps during he’s rotation. I know that there is a 40 ilvl difference but his prority skill are not different from mine.

During a Bestial Cleave proc, does KC actually spread among targets, or the proc is only for the white damage the pet does?

What should I do differently?

Thanks

That hunter other then good stats and preparation probably has the rapid reload trait. which is very good aoe, when you have it it changes your rotation to using multi shot only. If you don’ t have it it’s Worth to use kc, but i think you have to give priority to keeping up beast cleave. Sadly there’s not much to do wrong, keep beast cleave up and that’s it really, if you want you can use barbed shot on multiple targets as to not override the dot but it’s not that important. what you see m to need tho it’s gear, you can’t really compare to a 445 when ur 413, sadly there’s only so much you can do w/o ggear.

Rapid reload azerite trait, combined with smart use of Barbed Shot/Stomp and keeping cleave going is all you need.

I have one Rapid Reload azerite trait picked and I have no problem burning down islands and large packs of world mobs etc.
I am slightly higher ilvl than you but honestly not much and my gear is nowhere near “optimized”.

You can do alot more to get higher numbers ofc, but start with that.
Primal instinct trait also, it gives you a charge of barbed shot when you pop Aspect of the Wild.

  • on Method.gg they say to not spam MS since Beast Cleave is 4 sec. But what should I do in between? auto attack?

Thanks guys for the tips!

my rotation on big packs is pretty much hit beastial wrath, aspect of wild (depends where and how close to a boss I am), then spam MS hit kill command when up back to MS, I only use barbshot if I get one free.

I would start with talents as described in Icy Veins hunter manual and also see the rotation for those specific talents. Then I would enchant rings and wep and get food. A 415 bow will drop from eighter warfront or emissaryquest. BiS trinkets drop from Lfr bosses (Ashvanes Razor Coral-Azharas Font of Power). My tip is when done your dps will be significant better.

Your supposed to check your email and/or assored social medias halfway into your rotation, it wouldnt hurt to watch a video while your doing it either.

They’re right, you don’t spam MS for AoE, just keep up the four second buff as soon as it’s about to drop by casting it. It’s essentially the same as your ST rotation, just MS replaces SS, make sure you keep up frenzy with BS, nothing fancy. I don’t have rapid reload azerite traits and i also AoE over 20k. Though I went for stats over ilvl, but I have gone for a more ST build more for raiding as I don’t really do many M+ dungeons so I know my AoE could be a lot higher. I just prefer being able to kill bosses easier than trash, that’s what we have pallies and warriors for with their AoE :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

As many people said, Rapid Reload is a must. Pop the CD’s. Don’t be afraid if you’re close to the boss, because Aspect of the Wild gets 3 seconds off CD when you hit at least 3 targets with MS and you also get 10 seconds off Bestial Wrath when you use Barbed Shot. You will be amazed how much they will be lowered if you use this rotation:

  1. Opening
Bestial Wrath -> Barbed Shot 2x -> Aspect of the Wild -> Barbed Shot
  2. Rotation
Spam Multi Shot -> Barbed Shot before capping or when bonus pops with Dance of Death trait -> Kill Command when you are low on Focus.
  3. Focusing Iris and CDs when they are off the cool down.

For this you need the following traits: Dance of Death (at least 1), Rapid Reload, Primal Instinct (for the bonus Barbed Shot) and Haze of Rage. The last two are not necessary, but they are welcomed. Also the Whirlwind little trait is good.

As for Essences, Focusing Iris is the best for AEO in major slot and the one which helps you regenerate focus in the minor slot (I forgot the name, sorry), for being able to spam MS as long as possible.

With all this I usually get the following DPS (when the fight is almost over) :
On really big pulls — 200-300k
On big pulls - 100-200k
On normal (3-5 adds) — 50-100k

I run a Crit build with Haste as secondary, but with a lot of Haste and Mastery you can get out even bigger numbers.
I will check tomorrow if I missed something and I’ll edit the post.

/castSequence kill command, multi-shot, cobra shot
And use barbed, chimaera within gaps.

Then again… I am a filthy casual that swaps to bm when I feel extremely lazy

First off I do not recommend spamming multi-shot, otherwise you quickly find yourself without focus to use.

What I’d say is that you have two GCDs to use after each multi-shot before you have to refresh beast cleave. There are slight variations to this depending on your haste, but so far this is what I found to be a good guideline to keep.

Another thing you should consider are your barbed shot procs. If you get a proc while your main target still has barbed shot ticking on him then it is better to use that barbed shot on a new target, especially if your original target will not live long for barbed shot to last its full 8 second duration.

Also do not be afraid to use Aspect of the Wild on pulls. Using that alone makes a tremendeous difference in what your burst will be like.
