Body types in game

Hello!

Ive been reactig on this since they “included” that into the game. Blizzard is trying to be edgy and relevant instead of maybe really being inclusive. My point is that there are tonns of people that want to be called thinngs and body types 1 or 2 but there are also people (more than previosly named) that love to be called male and female. So, the obvious thing for me would be able to have both options available at the same time. No? When i create a character i can read both male and body type 1 or female and body type 2. I dont live in the world of confrontation and therefore see myself as a social being that is being able to communicate with anyone and ot chosing a side which is confrontationl position already. Cause a side included while the other is not. Which is not a modern respectful way to do thing but just mediocre tokenism and nothing else.

Or ofc i am probably so naive that i think that a company that is only focused on earning money would care about male/ female or body1/body2. in a decade will be some other crap. construct1/construt2 minion 1/minion 2 or whatever brings you your “social points” in relevant political flow.

Meh, who cares what they call it.

I’m too busy playing the game to even notice.

But does it make an actual difference for you? I personally, have not been met in game with anything that would trivialize what I choose.

The game doesn’t act different or treat you different regardless of what you choose.

When in the game are you called “male” or “female” apart from when you create your character? And if we are to follow that logic, do we then go back to not being able to swap between?
Because then you have people complaining that if you started off as male you can not just turn female and the other way around, which really isn’t a significant discussion in a fantasy game imo.

So I really don’t understand what it takes away from you?

I’m ok with that, but It’s something I chose once to create a char, I don’t think the “bodytype change” was necessary in the first place, but I really don’t lose sleep over it.

Reasons

starts with a P and ends with Tic

cant say it due to Terms

chris says it him self.

Its funny how we are forced to comply with only 1 ideology
its not like i identify as a body type 1 so why do I Have to put up with it?
Why is there no toggle option? You wanna be a body type? Go ahead and toggle the option.
I for one want to be male, so give me the option to select this.

It’s kinda funny.

But know I got curious if blizzard changed all the language in the game when they changed genders into body types.

I play the game on English for a long time now but in German we would have different words for male and female hunters for example.
Maybe I’m gonna switch the language later to check it out

What difference does it make?

What exactly is it taking away from you? You can still call yourself “male” or “female” if you want to.

It doesn’t really hurt anyone.

Oh we’re still not over the body types? They should add an option for every single thing you can identify as so people could be whatever they wanted. But even if they did, some fragile forumdwellers would get their knickers in a twist because woke and political and what not… There’s no winning whatever they do :woman_shrugging:t3:

This invalid argument is so overused it’s almost exhausting.
If it doesn’t matter then why change it and force it upon a majority which does not identify as a body type? And if we have no genders, then why is body type 2’s top covered? It’s total delusion.
And likewise having male and female as options does not prevent a person from identifying as whatever they like and it certainly doesn’t hurt them either.

Honestly the best solution would be to just have the customisations there without naming it anything. Not the symbols we had in the past (yes we were symbols) and not the type 1 and 2 we are now. Then no one would be offended.

I really envy people that get triggered over such stuff. Your life must be so perfect you have nothing serious to worry about, so you can focus so much on something that you see for 2 seconds when creating a character in a videogame.

It does matter a lot, how things are called generally. If it didn’t matter, Blizzard wouldn’t have changed it. Giving both options is a good compromise. I think they could also just remove the naming “body 1/2”, and simply have an icon, where people know what is meant. That’s a good middleground in a polarised society

honestly this change meant nothing.
u still have female or male voice. and for example russian client calls u dreneika or drenei based on ur body type (actually still gender).
this was a half measure cuz nobody cares.

would be cool if we acc had diff body types instead of these illusion ones like currently.
and i support pronoun and voice option too.

enlighten me how are u not male with body type 1?
u type this as if ur char was force femmed by dark forces of the blizzard

Honestly does this even matter anymore? Make a character you like the look of and play the game

Imagine being this upset over that a piece of text in the character creation has changed and literally nothing else.

You do realize how it makes you look? Hint, it’s not particularly good.

You have a VERY sheltered and good life if this is the worst that could happen to you to the point that you get this angry over it.

There are many layers of immersion into the lore here as well, for example:

  • We have mechanisms-stones that were affected by the curse of flesh.
  • We have mechanisms-stones that are not affected by the curse of flesh.
  • We have humanoid dragon-like experimental test tube super soldiers.
  • We literally have aliens!

To lump everyone together in the same basket of “human perception of the world” in high fantasy setting breaks the immersion a little.

Personally, I don’t care if it’s called Female/Male or Bodytype 1/Bodytype 2.
In both cases it is pretty intuitive what it means and serves its purpose in the character editor.

In a normal gameplay situation, this does not manifest itself in the game in any way, well, may be in the barbershop or as voice of the character and bodytype specific animations.
In an RP situation, we, RP players, have all the tools and add-ons to fully and clearly describe our characters, their appearance and identity.

Such discussions are usually “nothing burger”, there are as many opinions as there are people. It would be a win-win situation if they left only icons or something like that.

The way you know that this change was trolling was that the developers were laughing at people who took issue with it on Twitter and calling them losers, and also because they never added more than two “body types”.

For me, a body type is the kind of thing we see in BG3, where there are several even within one gender. Tall, short, stocky, fat, large upper body, etc.

It’s a different silhuette. For example Pandaren have a stocky and voluptuous body type while night elves have a slim and tall body type.

WoW has that, but only across races. They never implemented body types within each race - only mislabelled gender.
