Bolstering need to go

There is a streamer who posts daily petitioning for the removal of Bolstering

To make sure everyone gets the problem:

You cant. You cant by how dungeons are designed. You cant by how DPS are designed.

Ret palas cleave AoE in their ST rotation. Even with ST talents.

Same as warriors, rogues, monks, MW monks, RShamans… the list goes on…

And when that 1 big guy has more than double the health of the small ones… its impossible to execute your ideal.

There is no point arguing with these guys, they dont play higher than 20, so they dont understand

No, it doesn’t. It relies on coordinating interrupts and CCs. If you don’t do this, you bolster the biggest and ultimately most dangerous mob, and then you wipe. If you try to play bolstering as if it isn’t bolstering, you fail the key. Simple.

If they have full ST talents, they have ONE SINGLE ability that they have to use, once every 30 seconds, that does AOE damage. In AOE talents, judgement and wake of ashes hit multiple mobs, but they can use ST spenders, which means their AOE damage is minimal. An example of how this works is a DHT this week. We took the bear in the first pull, and it died a couple of seconds BEFORE everyone else. I focused the bear (except when I was stunning the cats) and didn’t touch divine storm until it had the same HP as everything else. Any ret pala who tells you they “can’t avoid” cleaving on trash is lying.

Used to check wowhead for the latest affix but now just check to forums see what people are crying over

These people :sweat_smile: they find a season where they can feel big and their ego skyrocket to the roof :rofl:
Let me tell you I was doing 21s in BFA when bolstering wasn’t this easy. Hey remember that mage in Shrine after the first boss?:sweat_smile::sweat_smile: lol.

Aaaanyway. There is a solution to that, one that we adopted in BFA. Either CC something or pull less.
But nope :face_with_diagonal_mouth: this season everyone feels soooo big we cannot avoid pulling the whole room.

And no, I’m not pushing this season because I don’t find these dungeons fun to play. So I stopped playing my evoker at +25s and my paladin tank now is starting +23s… and my hunter is stuck on +23s I barely use… so yeah :face_with_diagonal_mouth: I don’t play above 20…

I am not saying bolstering is good in comparison with a lot of other affixes, but it should probably also only a problem for timing keys on the highest of levels. So when your context is +30’s, sure you got my sympathy. But it isn’t a +25 problem.

OK. So who should you kill first in Tyr room in Rise. The big guys, or the casters?

Or, who should we focus in DHT (1st pull) on a regular fort week. The bear or the cats?

What key level? Because in a 27 I tried the cats literally 1-shot you. Not to mention the poison. And the bear lives for so long you run out of CCs.

As I said. The only way to make Bolstering work is to do such an insane amount of DPS that you kill everything before it has a chance to cast anything that might affect you.

Thats what you did in DHT. Nothing special with regards to any other week.

Which implies the following: You have the skill and DPS to run 2+ key levels higher than what you did. So would Bolstering not be there, you would be doing keys that much higher.

And that is why Bolstering has to go. Because its not “play the dungeon not the affix” (quoting blizz here).

Who in their right mind would take full ST talents to an M+? Packs would last for ever, and you would kill mobs 1 by 1. The only advantage to that would be maybe tyranical weeks, where the extra ST dps saves you time. Other than that, its a waste of DPS that reduces the chance of timing it by a good degree.

And because its mathematically worse, Rets do passive cleave.

We do not pull the bear in the first pull in bolstering. Obviously it is annoying but timers are lenient.

I get it, I can’t execute but I know what needs to be done. People like you and the OP seem to just want to go from A to B hitting the “brrrrrr” button and making sure you’re topping the meters. Probably sign up to all the “Big D!!!” groups cos you’re proper 'ard like that.

Except now you need to apply brain, must be a shock to the system.

Depends. The maiden needs to be focused because the AOE will one-shot if she gets bolstered. The others are manageable as long as they don’t get stacked too high. The casters can stay alive as long as they need to. That’s what interrupt rotations are for.

Without bolstering, it’s fine to focus the cats. With bolstering, they all need to die at the same time.

It was 26. The pull went perfectly. Zero deaths, the bear died fractionally before the rest. We screwed it up after the 2nd boss.

Ah, selective quoting. Not clever. What I actually said about M+ was:

I actually tried the “ret paladin passive cleave” line before we started a key on Wednesday, and our tank (long time ret main now playing prot) essentially told me to press templar’s verdict instead of divine storm and stop whining about the meters.

You cant time keys with this affix. TANK gets eaten alive, you never know what will one shot you…
Sure some keys are easyer than other.
This affix needs to be gone, same as sanguine.

Bro stop talking, with 3k2 score all affixes are fine. Try to push high keys with bolstering.

You’re looking at the hunter? That’s only marked as my main because I’ve done most of my mythic raiding on it.

Funny thing is the OP is playing one of the best funnel damage specs in the game and they’re still whining.

I appraise your optimism. And encourage your efforts.

But I want to leave clear that blizz promised us: Play the dungeon and not the affix.

And I agree with it.

And whatever strategies you give in no way dismiss the fact that Bolstering is far from “play the dungeon and not the affix”.

And to be honest, that level of perfection you did on that 1st pull of a 26 is the level of perfection you need to time that key in a 28 or 29. Both from execution to perfect CC/Interrupt chains.

That already must say something about why this affix is abhorrent. Whatever strategies you use.

They did? I never heard that one. And if it was truly what they mean, they would have simply removed affixes altogether because there would be no point to them existing.

Of course. If you don’t need to play perfectly to time a key on 28 or 29, there’s something seriously wrong.

it would be a really nice gift to playerbase if they just removed all affixes in S4 of DF.

i will say what i said mutliple times before - it feels to me like affixes run their course and its time to remove them completly for few seasons to just let people chill out.

every affix in the game is a healer affix. this needs to change

I have been looking for the quote, but the blue post does not exist anymore.

It was said during S2 development (we got the same affix rotation as S2 in S3). Where they started to tinker with Explosive. They tried to make it work, and could not. So they removed it in the end.

And the justification they gave for the back and fourth with affixes was that: Play the dungeon not the Affix.

WHY did they not just remove them? Dunno. Because maybe they add some spice, and I cant deny that.

But not Bolstering.

There is also something seriously wrong if an affix expects you to play a 26 as if it was a 28.

That’s because it’s not a blue post. Ion said something like it in an interview.

Affixes which dominate the dungeon and are the primary thing you think about in a dungeon also aren’t a success.
