Reporting don’t seems to do it work
it been 8 month i report bots farming in war mode in Ohnara / Azure span ( the end of name have even the number of bot the guy have) and still never get banned while i reported him every month for botting
Look like it’s out of control
So my question is : What if we implement Captcha in wow ?
Let’s say a play play for 6 hours straight, we send a captcha and he have 30 minutes to answer (so it doesn’t annoy during M+)
If he do not or fail, GM look at his case , whisper the bot and if he don’t answer or can’t stand a human conversation : BANNED
That’s a truly horrifying idea. I’m glad the devs don’t read the forum. There’s plenty of places to go if you want to click boxes with bikes or streetlights. I don’t want that here too.
There is a difference between someone hardcore farming something for 15 hours and bot doing same thing, Game imputs. All they have to do is check imputs and They will see who is human.
OMG Fishing is boring as heck. The fact you cannot keybind retrieving the lure from the water is what makes it annoying.
It ends up as hours of starting at the screen but not actually doing anything…
We have the sound queue, so let us just keybind that thing so we can read stuff without having to stare in game at a body of water.
As others have mentioned, having a Captcha system. Just won’t work. This is because you know. As people have said, Machine Learning/AI it can be easily bypassed nowadays. It’s no longer a foolproof system to stop botting. Also it can be quite inconvenient for people who are playing. What if you in the middle of a raid or middle of a dungeon doing something and all of a sudden BOOM popup for the Captcha mechanic that you’ve got to do. Basically ending up not being able to heal someone and then it wipes the right. So you have to take in consideration both sides of the spectrum.
As someone else is mentioned, Game Masters no longer exist, which is 100% true. The GM/CS department in Europe is no longer a thing. The France office got shut down and then we found out that Blizzard was committing tax fraud and they were stealing money from their employees, the Cork office in Ireland is being shut down, if it hasn’t already. They laid off pretty much like 90% of their staff, which was customer support, marketing, all that other departments.
Uh, so yeah Game masters no longer look at reports they haven’t for a very, very long time. All bought reports are done automatically via machine learning. The only thing a human gets involved with is clicking the button to run the scripts to look for the red flags of all the accounts in the game.
Whatever system a developer or publisher puts in place to stop people from running bots or cheats, it gets countered very, very quickly. Because the market for botting software and cheating software is a multimillion dollar industry. Because you pay €15.00 a month or £15 a month, whatever it is to play World of Warcraft. These people who are not these Chinese gold farming companies, but your average person who uses a bot software, they’re paying their fifteen a month plus 30 to 40 a month for the botting software.
From my understanding and from what I’ve learnt, the majority or nearly all of the bot companies out there use VPN’s to hide their true location. And you know that there are a few countries which are very evident in the botting industry, which is of course China, Iran & I’m sure turkey is in there as well.
But even if they were able to verify the IPs being used, because you know, most VPN’s don’t really have a rotating IP when it comes to the software that these companies use. Even if they were to ban the IP range, they just go ahead and use another IP. So it’s very difficult to counter all this stuff.
The only way it can be counted is if it became law, if it became law, where it is now illegal and punishable by prison or heavy fines. That is where you’ll see the cheating and botting in gaming, drop. It won’t disappear, it will drop. And of course, you know that’s when these bought companies will go to those countries where, you know, U.S. law or European law means nothing to them.
You can. There is interact button. A lot of legit fishing addons use it and binds cast and interact to 1 button. So it become press the button → wait for splash → press same button again. Very useful for farming rare thing, which requires thousands of casts, while watching Netflix.
On Classicwow I spotted a thread about bots using ChatGPT modified chat sessions to appear like human so I would not really rule out the “must answer or you’re a bot” thing.
I myself typically do not answer to such “threats” ingame and report if they harass me during my gaming session.
That is not correct, if you take a look at several closed threads over at the CS forums there are plenty of people complaining about being banned.
The majority gets deleted because of serious flaming, but even a single report can lead to a penalty if something occured.
It’s just that sometimes it takes time, there was even a case at the US forums where a player got banned for selling GDKP at the very first day of the ban and then forgot about it for example which is awhile ago.
There’s a plague of bots on my realm in Zalarek Caverns. I’m getting 20+ notifications about account bans after reporting, but it’s not enough to fix the economy in wow. Zalarek Glowspores are in ridiculous price, and it’s funny to see jump in price after wave of bans, and then decrease even more, because bots owners wants to sell it faster just in case. I wouldn’t care about these stupid bots if they wouldn’t hurting players experience in any way tho.
