Retail and wotlk ‘recount’ addon has 120 mill downloads.
Wow subs ranged from +5m in the early years to +10m in peak years.
Even if you have a steady average of 5m subs come and go every year for 20 years, who all download it, that’s just 100m downloads. Unrealistic scenario.
My best guess would be 30 million unique wow accounts. Mostly long time subs, some old ones left, new ones came in. Then they maybe downloaded recount a couple 1-4 times, because of a new pc, windows changes, full game reinstall etc.
Or maybe some crazy person bot farmed the addon download button 100 million times?
How would you account for these numbers?
Confirm what? Whn you develop apps you can get a breakdown of download stats as part of Curseforge developer tools. if you opt to use the metric, I can’t link you that, if you develop apps you can go look at it. Again, not a secret, but as always, Puny knows best.
Agree it just counts how many times the app is downloaded. One person could download it multiple times and it will count it as a download each time including if you update it.
If updates count as downloads, and recount is at version 10, with guessing people updated every 0.5 at least, that brings it down to at least 10-20 unique users, so 120m downloads could be 6-12 million unique wow players. Makes way more sense that way.
