I’ve been tanking since vanilla and have decided to main a monk this expansion.
For me the brewmaster feels a bit underwhelming in the defensive part. As a prot warrior my health rarely drops bellow 100%, without Shield block I have 40% block chance, on top of that block chance there is also 21% parry chance and 3 % dodge chance, whereas my monk at 377 ilvl has 11% dodge and 3% parry chance.
What I feel like the brewmaster is missing, is parry chance from critical strike. With parry from critical strike + the way you get your dodge chance up with blackout kick and elusive brawler, I believe the brewmaster will feel much better.
P.S. Please let monks fight with their weapons too.
Indeed, brewmaster is the worst tank right now. Completely viable for the content that is out right now, but leagues below all other tanks.
Even the HP buff brewmasters got recently (30->45% extra stamina) is not so great when you understand the underlying mechanics of brewmaster. Yes, it’s still an overall EHP buff but lessens the proc rate of Gift of the Ox by ~12%, as it is tied to our max health, making our sustain even worse, even if only slightly.
