Brighness Issue

Latest update to retail wow is causing increased brightness difference issues between the Desktop and the game itself. Basically when I load up retail wow in a fullscreen mode this happens. it actually even causes the desktop to go brighter briefly upon loading. It’s really annoying and frustrating as I find the game too bright and difficult on my eyes. Cant seem to solve this issue either just by adjusting the ingame settings. It isnt an issue with my pc either as this issue isnt a problem with classic wow or tbc classic. Your attention to fixing this problem since the last update would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Baracabus! Sorry to hear about the issue, getting eye fatigue is understandably not a pleasant experience.

Since the issue starts when you load up the game, feels like that there is either a configuration value that became stuck, or there’s something like the Nvidia panel that is loading up a specific profile with increased brightness (for whatever reason) when the game is launched

I’d look into the first possibility, so I would ask you to first try to simply open the Battle.net application, go into the panel:
Settings → Game Settings

Once there open the World of Warcraft section and click on Reset In-Game Options
Restart the game and see if that has solved the problem.

If that doesn’t work, go into the …/World of Warcraft/retail/WTF folder (if the issue is on the Shadowland version, otherwise go into the appropriate one) and delete the config.wtf file entirely, restart the game.

If even this fails, I would recommend to double check the Nvidia/AMD panels and double check if they have any WoW specific profile, if they do you may either want to delete them or to double check if for whatever reason they have a specific brightness setting that is setup too high.

Let us know how it goes and if there are any other issues!

Or, Esc->system->advanced

Locate the Gamma slider on the right hand side, move it to the left to reduce brightness, move it to the right to increase brightness.

  1. Personal attacks and insults are against the forum rules, so I would thank YOU for considering your posts before you post.
  2. I don’t know you, therefore how is a person who doesn’t know you, know that you are aware of the Gamma setting, or where to find it, or even that you’ve tried it, because you didn’t mention what you had already tried.
