Bro they moved all my characters to a monofaction realm anyway, even if I didn’t accept the free transfer…so it’s not “people mass transfered”, it’s “we have been forced to do it and we quit after that”.
When the first free transfers were offered as good as everyone moved to the servers where their faction was the highest. All the horde went to Gehennas and Golemag and all Alliance went to Firemaw and Everlook. This were entire guilds that agreed together to move to a certain server. You only get autotransferred if you don’t vacate a realm before it’s shut down so I’ll assume that you didn’t play for a while and missed the window to transfer. The way it is now is that only the PVE servers are somewhat balanced, but all the english pvp realms are either horde or alliance stacked, and that’s no accident.
This is exactly what happens.
I was leveling in STV yesterday and was killed a few times by an 80 rogue, i log into my warlock and go to the same spot and kill him, He resses and just flys around in the sky.
Insane world PVP experience.
No it was not, Faction was balanced through out vanilla and tbc until horde were given the chance to no longer play on a realm with another faction (they took it because no one cares about wpvp)
As an active Cata player I will go with whatever server I want. Please and thank you.
If there was an apetite for balanced servers you wouldn’t need to stop anyone. Of course there is a niche for it and it is represented by sub 1% of minority factions on said servers.
That is simply not true. Transfers was opened up away from firemaw, and horde slowly moved to Gehennas untill there was a 10-15% alliance lead. Which eventually led to all transfering in a day or two in a fomo moment, in fear of being left on a dead faction before there was any cross realm grouping. And as you can see from the popularity of SoD and how much the community especially appraised the new server feature which essentially SECURES faction balance, you’d be a fool to not realise they should do that in cata, and then allow all people who dont like PvP to transfer to their PvE servers.
Transferred were opened to dead realms which no one wanted to go to in an attempt by blizzard to revive those realms and reduce the queues on firemaw/gehennas.
Players preferred dealing with 8 hour queues then raid with their friends than play on them.
Then someone found out you can “exploit” one of the realms to go to Gehennas; a Horde only realm and 99.9% (over 10 thousand raiders) of horde thought was great.
Exaclty, a few of the biggest horde PvE guilds on firemaw did this, and that left to many more horde feeling they had to go or end up being on a dead faction. Which essentially started a avalanche of people moving. Because playing on a PvE server is better than playing on a dead faction. That in addition to alliance at that point also had gained a 10-20% lead over the horde population. Which is why the SoD system is so great, and new cata servers should be opened with this system in place.
Cataclysm removed the arena rating restriction on gear, and it’s relatively easy to pick up the best available pvp gear. You only need to play normal battlegrounds to do so. This is partly why I really liked Cataclysm’s world pvp. The other reason why I liked Cataclysm’s world pvp was the Tol Barad Peninsula and Molten Front. These zones saw frequent pvp, with no low level players and no flying.
