Bring back old fury, suggestion for SMF and TG

Many warriors miss the old school dopamine educing fury gameplay. TG, builders and spenders is cool, but doesn’t do it for many of us fury mains. Nearly every warrior I speak to who played during vanilla, tbc, wotlk and classic, miss this gameplay style. Here is my suggestion on how to bring that back while keeping current fury as is. Give us a choice between SMF/TG early on in the talent tree eg instead of the Raging Blow talent.

TLDR: SMF: All of your rage is generated by white hits. Builders are now spenders. SMF doesn’t have Raging blow nor rampage. Execute does massive damage and is your preferred spender. Heroic strike is back. Chance on hit for extra hit. Crits buff the warrior with flurry (flurry +% AS for normal attacks) and crits have a chance to proc Sudden Death. Mastery increases dmg while enraged and chance for extra attacks as well as flurry attack speed.

I made an image of the talent tree but I am not allowed to post hyperlinks to my posts yet. So here is the text instead. I can send you the image if you DM me.

Single Minded Fury
Talent
When dual wielding one-handed weapons or a single two-handed weapon, you gain x% critical strike chance and x% haste. Your attacks also have a chance to trigger an extra attack. Your Critical Strikes have a chance to trigger Sudden Death making execute usable on any target regardless of their health. Your white hits generate significantly more rage.

Heroic strike
Talent
Costs 13 rage
Heroic strike adds (x% attack power) as physical damage to your next normal attack.
Bloodthirst
Now costs 30 rage
You hit your target with Bloodthirst dealing (x% attack power) as physical damage and heals you for 3% of your maximum life. Bloodthirst always enrages you.
Execute
Attempts to finish off a foe using your two handed weapon, causing up to (current rage*x% attack power) as physical damage per rage point consumed. Only usable on enemies that have less than 20% heath.
Flurry
Passive
Critical strikes give you Flurry. Flurry increases the attack speed of your three next normal attacks by x%.

Mastery
Increases your damage while enraged and increases the chance for your attacks to trigger an extra attack. Mastery also increases your maximum rage and the attack speed of Flurry.

Titans Grip would stay the same as is.

Titans Grip
Talent
You can now dual wield two handed weapons.

Rampage
Costs 80 rage
Talent
Enrages you and unleashes a series of 4 brutal strikes for a total of (x% attack power) as physical damage.
Bloodthirst
Generates 8 rage
Bloodthirst deals (x% attack power) physical damage and heals you for 3% of your max health.
Raging Blow
Talent
Generates 12 rage
A mighty blow with both weapons that deals a total of (x% of attack power) + as physical damage. Raging Blow has a chance to reset its own cooldown.
Execute
Attempts to finish off a foe, causing up to (x% attack power) as physical damage based on Rage spent. Only usable on enemies that have less than 20% health.

Mastery
Increases the damage bonus of Enrage.

Notes
This would enable the old school rage managing hack and slash reactive dopamine educing gameplay fury used to be. Critical strike chance would also be more attractive as Sudden Death and Flurry are triggered by crits.

Raging Blow and Rampage are not available with SMF.

In addition add an extra 2handed weapon slot when choosing SMF which is used as a stat stick and for execute leaning into that aesthetic of warriors being masters of all arms.

Raging Blow talents can affect Bloodthirst or Execute when choosing SMF and stay as they are when choosing TG.

This is obviously a major addition to the warrior talent tree and gameplay and would need proper development, balancing etc. Something we wont see for a while, but since Blizzard started listening to its player base and did a decent job with TWW we might see something like this in the future if it gets enough responds and likes. Please share it with your fury warrior friends.

I have played all iterations of warrior and it has been my main for the majority of the expansions. I couldnt agree more with what you are saying.

Current fury can be fun when popping cds, especially on aoe, (kinda enjoying meat cleaver too) but thats about it. Its just a bland builder spender spec otherwise.

The original iteration of fury up till end of wotlk was a masterpiece.

PS: don’t tell me to go play classic, i already did. I want retail to be good.

Yes fury from vanilla through wotlk was truly a masterpiece. New fury is decent but just a four button mash dumping rage into Rampage… Its pretty boring. Old school fury on the other hand had rage managment, timing HS properly with BT, slam if you felt frisky etc.

Whenever I bring this up people tell me “go play classic”. I do play classic and I also play retail. Classic fury feels a million times better and I want a mix of modern fury and vanilla-wotlk fury.

Every warrior I know who loves the class wants this.

You could build a system of sustaining several levels or types of enrage with those spenders. And it would stack, with independent timers for each stack. And execute phase would build a multiplier, also stacking independently. so that we can scale well with haste and feel more dynamic.

BT enrage, HS enrage, WW enrage → gigachad execute?

TBC Fury was peak for me. There was nothing quite like being in Black Temple and pooling up some rage before you were ready to pop sweeping strikes with Bloodlust Brooch and Blood fury and just blasting trash packs down, you felt like a literal god.

Or the feeling of having recklessness with bloodlust up and just pumping all those heroic strikes into a boss like Teron Gorefiend. I recently played TBC and WOTLK Classic and went hard for that period playing Fury, it was just amazing. But I don’t think Blizzard would allow that gameplay to be meta even if they did add it, SMF for them is only there to shut people up, that’s why it’s useless now.

it’s sad. I don’t understand why they changed the game so much. TBC fury
