Bring back PvP to leveling

One of the things Classic WoW does really well is create spontaneous, unique PvP encounters while players are doing their more predictable and by now well-known quests.

These moments, especially when encountering someone in your leveling range, are for some, myself included, very thrilling and maybe one of the most entertaining events that the game has to offer.

The surprise and pace involved contrast the traveling and questing very briefly, colouring your way up to max level in a great way.

Is it possible that now, in retail, people that choose for War Mode while leveling are also phased into the time-frame they picked when talking to Chromie? For example, if I go to Desolace after picking Cataclysm - Will I be able to see someone that’s still in the BfA timezone? I don’t think so.

The world as it is, is already huge. By splitting it up in even more time zones - I’m worried I won’t meet any horde players while leveling in older zones.

That is one problem.
The other problem is that, when we do in fact meet a horde, the level disparity is very likely to be too large to make the encounter exciting.

I’ve played the game for many years and aside from raiding, these unique open world encounters have always brought me the most joy. I hope to be able to experience this again in leveling at some point in the future.

I’ve, of course, come up with solutions.
The first one has actually already been implemented in some form, but was then abolished. Players would be scaled to be matched in power even though the would have different levels. As I seemed to understand from the feedback at the time, the scaling was off. Also, people didn’t like seeing a lower leveling beating them.
I do think however, the basic premise of scaling to match strength was the right one. However, when players see the character from the opposing faction, they should not see the actual level of that player - but, just like the mobs in the zone, the level of that other players should be shown as the same as theirs. The level gap shouldn’t be visible. That would make it less bothersome.
Perhaps, at level 50 and beyond the scaling should end - keeping things as they are now and making it so that level 60 players can still easily kill anyone below their level.
Remember, in Classic WoW people would go to zones attuned for their level. That meant that when they met eachother, they would also have a similar level.

The second solution is targeted at phasing due to the Chrome Time choices. Perhaps all zones should just be configured for 1-50 leveling. Choosing a different timeline at Chromie thus wouldn’t put you in another phase anymore. The only thing Chromie would change, is the starting quest she offers for entering the old expansion and the dungeons.

Instead of phasing, perhaps Chromie should change zones like Darnassus, Tirisfal Glades, Arathi, … depending on the expansion - but that is actually a separate, supplementary idea.

TLDR: Remove phasing due to Chromie & introducing PvP scaling at level 50 and below in the open world in order to recreate that old school Classic Wow leveling experience.

I agree we need to have that kind of vibe with retail wow, it really is fun and brings joy to me every time I get to fight someone in open world.
Why I am commenting this is not to just agree with you but to put word out there for blizzard, you see when someone is complaining about competitive stuff, you need to be really careful as if he is complaining about that stuff for sake of his complex or compulsion if you will, or because it has reason behind it that is true. They changed new world pvp design because lower lvl could kill higher lvl and I was really astonished why would someone do that because someone’s complaint came from compulsion of being competitive… lol it is really stupid of them, but what can you do when people don’t understand how competition cripples people inside them, we need to make things clear, competition is urge to be better then someone else, and that’s not what most of other players are experiencing in games, companies really need to sort things out and stop designing everything around competition, majority of people are not like that, and you will see we will start spreading message more and more because we don’t want toxic internet, people will act I can assure you…

PvP during leveling is scuffed because of Chromie Time, and that you cannot activate it until you’re level 20 or higher.

So basically u want to kill people that doesnt want do thave a PvP experience while lvling

Man cool congrats

Chromie leveling creates a lot of problems apart from just wpvp. It does one thing right and that’s allowing the player to experience an expansion of their choice fully while leveling instead of doing bits and pieces of everything along the way, but that’s about the extent of the positives. Other than that, it just divides the already diminishing leveling community into a bunch of little parts, confuses new players with syncing and/or phasing, and discourages or outright entirely forbids interaction between guild members (say asking a higher level guildmate for help with a harder quest).

Massive leveling tangent in a primarily pvp thread but yeah, tldr: agreed chromie is ruining wow by creating “instances” where they don’t belong.

I always level with war mode (on both sides) and the experience is as bad as it was in Vanilla. Nothing has changed and this is why war mode shows that really no one wants world pvp.
I normally don’t attack people 5+ below my level (higher ones make no sense because the gap in skills and gear gets excessive too quick)
In all cases of “pvp encounters” it was the same:
I get attacked by level 60 or basically anyone that a) is 20+ levels above or b) has at least 1 or more friends with him
Even if I’m the good guy and not killing the level 23 that just ran past me, it doesn’t take more than 2 minutes a friend from his realm comes to stomp me.
That’s exactly the definition of world pvp in Vanilla, BC, WotLk before we had war mode.

tldr: get rid of world pvp as a whole, it’s not needed and no one really cares.
