So as much as you (Blizzard) are going on about how you listen to the playerbase in order to improve the game in 10.0, when are you going to merge dead/dying realms?
Some realms have been connected 5+ times and others have never been connected. Obviously the likes of Draenor/Silvermoon don’t need connecting, but other servers don’t have even 1/10th of the playerbase they have and have never been connected. Surely it is about time for mass server merges in order to bring up realm population, leading to better recruitment opportunities, a better functioning AH etc etc. or is Blizzards plan just to continue bleeding it’s playerbase for realm transfer money?
The idea of cross faction raiding etc is fine for communities, but people like to raid with the guilds, and be involved in the guild chat that comes with it which this won’t bring. In terms of mythic raiding you can’t x-realm raid mythic unless people are on your server either (until Hall of Fame is done). AH prices and supply/demand is absolutely whack for lower pop realms as well.
The difference in server population between the top servers and the bottom (unconnected) servers is around 20,000 players, which is clearly insane.
You pretty much pointed that out yourself, when you mentioned that megathread that’s been on the go almost three years and has been ignored. I suppose the only positive take-away you can have from the existence of that thread is that they haven’t actually locked it, or deleted it, which mods have shown elsewhere they’re perfectly willing and happy to do (not saying that’s wrong, just mentioning it to show that, in effect, they’ve deliberately left it open).
Mainly because the Customer Support staff who post in here have nothing to do with connecting realms or realm populations. The decisions for this come from the US though I’m not which department.
They surely must have some way of at least feeding back issues though, would be mind boggling if they didn’t, so either they aren’t feeding it back or Blizz don’t care
I was talking about Customer Support where this thread was originally. Someone’s moved it here.
Here it would be community staff who pass it on but I’m not sure what EU community staff there are now.
They’re never going to merge servers because the split second they merge only 2 dead servers people will start writing up articles about how the “End of World of Warcraft” has begun and Blizzard has “started shutting down servers” and the second those articles pop up most of the player base will jump ship and stop wasting their time.
The only solution to the dead server problem is for Blizzard to implement a new server structure that works with Channels and not stupid server names that split up people. People should simply be filling up a “channel” and when a channel is full new players entering the zone are put into a new channel. Give players the ability to jump channels so they can switch and play with their friends. This system is already essentially in place via sharding. It would just be a smarter implementation.
except they’ve already merged lots of servers previously when people started jumping to specific realms previously which is what caused the current population sizes of the likes of silvermoon/draenor/tarren mill etc. add to that there will always be the “omg wow is dying” articles, they’ve not gone anywhere so thats a non-point.
It’s not around playing with friends, because thats already solved through x-realm grouping and sharding, it’s around guilds and AH’s so unless they start allowing x-realm guilds or merging AH’s the problems still remain.
