Bringing back RP to Silvermoon

Hello there, People of Argent Dawn

I have decided to create a new discord channel to promote Blood Elf roleplay while simultaneously trying to increase the amount of players that actively play Blood Elf.

The goal

The goal is to have Silvermoon become an active hub just like it once was. If you walk around Silvermoon these days, you barely see more than six souls tops which is very saddening when it used to be so much different. Fortunately, we have strong guilds such as Divison Twenty Three lead by Garathil and Oath of Silver lead by Theolain that still, after all these years, are actively providing roleplay to the Blood Elf community. Of course these are only examples, there are many more that does this too. Such perseverence is commendable.

How?

For the past few days, I’ve actively been searching around for people that either wants to return to roleplaying a Blood Elf, or people that wants to try something new by rolling a Blood Elf. I’ve been making posts in several different discord channels to give this attention, as well as the Alliance general chat. Strengthened over the past few days, my understanding is that most people that used to play Blood Elf didn’t leave cause they wanted to, but simply because of the activity that was steadily declining within the city as a whole. This leads me to believe that there is a good pool of people that wants to return to Silvermoon provided there are people there, so consider this project a start.

Isn’t there already a discord dedicated to Silvermoon City?

Yes, there is. Though upon creating my own discord, I did not know of the existence of the other one. However, I do believe we can co-exist for a while without it harming the community as a whole too much. Eventually, we might all migrate over to that discord to simplify communication and keeping the community together. On another note, I do consider the discord server I created as something of a bridge for those that wishes to migrate from Alliance to Horde and settle in the Blood Elf community.

I don’t think you should divide the dwindling community of Argent Dawn by bringing people from Alliance to Horde.

While I do think the shrinking RP playerbase is sad, I do not believe this is bad for the community as a whole on Argent Dawn, but quite the contrary. There are people out there who wishes to experience a change of scenery in their casual roleplay, and I think this can be a good way to make that change and give people a way to try something new and create new things that perhaps cannot be done on Alliance, or simply has been done too much, especially when it comes to guilds.

Do you think this is at all possible?

Yes, I do think it is possible, although very difficult. It’s a quite ambitious project that might very much fail, but it is better to at the very least try to make a change instead of sitting on the sidelines whining about missing Blood Elf roleplay and Silvermoon City.

Here is my discord, feel free to add if you have any questions or simply want to join the discord. Aesir#0812

Then you clearly do not know the blood elven community.

If anything, the reason why Silvermoon City is empty is because it is the undoing of the long-standing roleplayers in that same community, and whilst it is sad that the entire city is empty - it is a basic and simple karma.

I always thought of it as an obvious consequence of a shrinking Horde population and the introduction of Void Elves. I can’t speak to the actions of former or current RPers engaged in SMC.

I’m sorry to hear that.

Nontheless, I am still optimistic that this might very well work. I’ve spoken to some of the long-term Belf roleplayers I know of, and none of them seem shy when it comes to collaboration.

Thank you for your post!

Tbf the argument of getting some Alliance to migrate over to Horde is abit of a weak one anyways, Alliance is rammmmmmed compared to Horde, Horde could do with abit of a migration to even the odds abit if…20 Alliance rp’ers started maining Horde tonight it wouldnt even really dent the SW population nevermind Alliance, wish you the best with this.

There are obviously many reasons as to why it has been on a massive decline over the past at least 3 expansions, but the major crux is that the remaining community did not help to retain those people, who left for other reasons than void elves and lawsuit action in the past couple of years.

I am confident they do not mind and hats of to you for trying to revive it. But it is a cycle that is as old as going back to TBC and in no shape or form it is going to change in the nearest future.

I got no problem with this. Silvermoon’s cool, but I see barely anyone there. If you can do it, cool.

Silvermoon and its surrounding zones are some of the nicest spots in the entire game imo, if some life can be brought into the city given there is a few Belf guilds about now that lend to numerous different themes/military groups ect, given how popular the belf race is anyways with rp’ers? Silvermoon could turn into a serious hub

Sure I’ll join up and see where it goes, toss the link and let’s get rolling. I’m up for most things belfy.

People left Silvermoon because the population was already dwindling, and then the ERP’ers came creeping in, making Silvermoon into the Horde version of Goldshire.

The more ERP’ers came, the less normal people came to Silvermoon. The less that came, the more it dwindled, and the more ERP was normalized, and eventually came what Silvermoon was known for.

Silvermoon will never be an active RP hub until said ERP’ers are chased out. One could argue that if you leave them alone to their respective area (That I will not mention), they’ll fade out. This is wrong.

  1. They’ll simply begin pestering other non-degenerate RP’ers there, much like they do in Stormwind now (Got a female character? Expect sleazy DM’s, outright disgusting filth, or cheeky open invites to ERP)

  2. As people show up to RP, finding said ERP’ers will turn away some. Sadly, more will simply join the ERP’ers (As we see all the time), thus growing their presence indirectly, thus leading to the earlier issues mentioned.

  3. Eventually, Silvermoon will once be known as the “Goldshire of Horde” in public discourse, and the core issue will remain. Silvermoon will be deserted once more and then we’re back at it again.

Attempt to repopulate Silvermoon all you want. It won’t be fixed until the ERP den is rooted out, no matter how small it may be.

From any experience of my own it’s just the way things are, Goldshire for the Alliance and that place for The Horde. The goal of repopulating Silvermoon is honestly one I’m going to try and have a hand in myself. I used to love it there, I’m a massive sucker for anything Thalassian and with new lore being added in Lordaeron and Quel’thalas it will hopefully be the right push to something good.

I RP’ed as a Blood Elf in the old Silvermoon community between TBC/Early Wrath to late Cata. I was new to RP, and it was my first proper RP experience. Was I a good RP’er? Lol no, I was like 10 or something back then.

But it was great. It really was. And ever since Silvermoon died out, I’ve dearly missed it. Both for nostalgia and just the atmosphere of Silvermoon, Eversong, and Sin’dorei RP in general. I 100% support the repopulation of Silvermoon, and I truly hope you succeed. We all win from it.

However

Whilst the aforementioned infestation of Silvermoon continues, and is not rebuked by the masses (Or Blizzard drops the ban hammer), the issue will persist and Silvermoon will never come back properly. Whatever iteration it may take, will be ruined by these people.

No one goes to Goldshire to do actual RP for obvious reasons. Many people departed Stormwind just on the basis that ERP had begun to become rampant. Said ERP didn’t stop or shrink. It continued, and more people joined in.

I myself would not want to RP somewhere where I’d be harassed sexually in whispers because I simply had a female character, or people kept approaching me with the intent of ERP (Masked as genuine RP). Why would you?

You can’t build a house on a broken foundation, as they say. And with all the recent posts about ERP’ers and their complete disregard for WoW being a PG12 game for children (and worse), I dread to think what might happen if the issue persists in Silvermoon.

I honestly think the problem of unwanted whispers and approaches can be solved my continuous reporting of such.
If everyone just backs off from the places they want to roleplay at for those reasons, there will never be a change.

Regarding Alliance to Horde migration - especially moving them to Silvermoon; I can only assume the worst of such.

People flock to Stormwind because it is vast and easy on the eyes. Silvermoon, while open, is simply smaller and not as easy to ‘dwell’ in. Furthermore every evening the sun turns into a dorito and the city is shrouded in a cheesy orange haze.
While that is a huge sell for some, to others the colour scheme is a strain on the eyes like classic Durotar.

I shall not even begin on the general attitudes of Stormwind RPers… It is of my own opinion that Silvermoon would be populated but its RP quality would not improve.

Four of which spend time at the Bazaar, doing statue RP and bait for Extreme RP.

While there are for certain great roleplayers on the Alliance side, the experience I had in SMC and SW is a day and night of a difference and not in a favor of SW.

I do agree that part of SMC population rolled onto Rendorei aka Queldorei quick enough. And it pains me to see how Rendorei or Queldorei are being RPed as. From majestic, arrogant and knowledgeable elf, some of them turned into bubble gum chewing troublemakers.

Anyhow.
I remember SMC around the end of WOTLK and Cata. It was chaotic. Crazy at times. But it was alive and great. Walking empty streets of this city, gives me vietnam flashbacks and it is a saddening experience. I wish there were more rpers there.

Good luck with this project and do share a link for Discord. I would like to join.

100%, you get ERPers in Stormwind, doesnt impact my rp experience, like you said easy enough to simply ignore once you find out what they are, pointless letting a whole city go to waste because of some erpers if that was the case, Stormwind would also be abandoned by any non ERP’er, wouldnt “hide” from Silvermoon because some people there erp.

Funny how you mention that after flat out confessing once on the forum that you are the one doing ERP yourself “as a simple follow up”

Perhaps it is not random Bazaar people who are wrong, but the long standing community members from certain guilds that self-snitched or were caught on trial accounts at the Bazaar?

There’s a difference between erp for the sake of erp or erp that comes from all sorts of rp.
If you want to go ham on me, go make another topic, don’t flood it down here.

Technically all non human roleplayers are erp’ers(Exotic Roleplayers) as they are all foreign, but yeah not the main focus on this topic I think

Yeah that is the excuse your guild is famous for. Or entire blood elf community, cause “its bad if you do it just for the sake of it, rather than filling my rich story with the necessary continuation!”

And I do not need to go ham at you, but if you are trying to make a point - then do so without obvious hypocrisy.
