BUG – “Emerald Nightmare: Essence of Power” (ID 43517) stuck at 24/30, no essences from Heroic or Mythic bosses

Hello,

I’m reporting a serious issue with the quest “Emerald Nightmare: Essence of Power” (ID 43517).

My character (Jaedar, server: Pozzo dell’Eternità, level 80, patch 11.1.5) has this quest currently active and stuck at 24/30 Corrupted Essences.

Here’s exactly what I’ve done this week (reset: April 30, 2025 EU servers):
• Cleared Normal Emerald Nightmare → received some essences, up to 24/30
• Cleared all bosses in Heroic difficulty solo → 0 essences
• Cleared all bosses in Mythic difficulty solo → 0 essences

Notes:
• All clears were done solo with my own lockout
• No group, no party, no shared saves
• Quest remained active the entire time
• Loot settings were set to personal and auto-loot was on
• I’ve received conflicting answers from multiple GMs: some said it’s working as intended, others acknowledged that something seems wrong

At this point, I believe this is a bug with the quest progression tracking or an invisible internal flag that is preventing further essence drops after the Normal run.

Please escalate this to QA or the dev team. This quest is required for the Balance of Power artifact campaign and I’ve done everything correctly from the player side.

First, please understand that nobody at all from Blizzard will ever even see this post.

These forums are not monitored for any kind of in-game reports.

Next, and more relevantly, from what I remember of the Essences from EN, each BOSS drops per account once per week, regardless of difficulty.

So if you get the drop from a boss on Normal, you will not get any Corrupted Essences when you kill the same boss on Heroic or Mythic.

So kill them on Mythic, where you are most likely to get most drops, and ignore the other difficulties. That’s what I did when I was farming them.

You are only able to loot the Corrupted Essence once a week per boss regardless of difficulty.

You will NOT be able to loot this item when killing the same boss on a different difficulty on the same week where you have already received this item.

 

P.S. I was VERY surprised to hear that GMs didn’t know this, so I checked Blizzard’s official Support pages, which you should always do before making a report

Corrupted Essences or Seething Essences, a container which holds multiple Corrupted Essences, will only drop from a boss as long as all the following are true:

  • The quest Emerald Nightmare: Essence of Power is active in your character’s quest log when you kill the boss
  • The raid boss difficulty is Normal or higher
  • Your character is eligible for loot
  • Your character did not previously kill that boss on any difficulty, Normal or Higher, since reset this week

If you did loot the boss but did not get a Corrupted Essence, check your character’s inventory for Seething Essences. The Postmaster will not send you Essences if you did not loot them from the boss.
