After last 11.1 patch wow is starting with an error popup,
api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-l1-1-0.dll is missing etc.
Ironically, there are a lot of such dlls, even in bnet folder.
Are you on Windows 7?
Yep. And here we are having totally no testing, like that bootcamp screen was totally crashing wow to death for a month until fixed.
It seems that all Windows 7 users are affected by the same problem.
Interestingly, this issue happened previously with Dragonflight with a similar file.
Fortunately, if you press accept on the error message, the game starts, although I don’t know if there are any additional side effects that I haven’t detected yet.
Afair there are none other effects except annoyances at launch. And, as i said, the dll causing error is already in system-known places, even in bnet folder (twice), but thats not helping at all.
We have to wait until they slap their coders to fix it, anyways. And bug report after each minipatch without fix.
Download api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-l1-2-0.dl from dll-files.com
(make sure you download 64-bit version) and place it in the same directory where your WoW.exe is.
Alernatively you can copy one of those libraries you find on your computer (as long as it’s 64bit) there. It should stop that error dialog to appear during game startup.
This is a very dangerous measure, as DLLs downloaded from the internet may contain malware or other dangerous executables.
Curiously, this file is not found in any windows 10 or windows 11 folder. It is part of the operating system kernel, so there is no way to copy it (for the moment).
In any case, it is useless to use that file on windows 7, as it is intended for later versions. Although you will not get the error message, other files to which it is linked will be required.
The only solution is to wait until the game is compiled correctly to be compatible with all windows. Because at the moment it only fails on windows 7, but most likely it will also fail on windows 10 or windows 11 depending on what updates you have installed.
This should be fixed by publisher, yes. But so far they still didn’t fix it…
The site dll-files.com
is a reputable website that exist a quarter of century now (longer than a WoW itself :)) and has been created exactly to resolve missing dlls problems.
Since the game starts even without that dll after you click “OK” button , it links to nothing of importance if anything. The error dialog at start is annoying, you can use this as temporary solution to make the error dialog go away.
1 month later - as of patch 11.1.0.5988 the issue remains.
Still using external dll to bypass, and sending bugreports now and then.
