Returned to WoW after a few years and found my two mains missing all of the items in their bags, except for my Hearthstone and Artifact weapon. My equipped gear was still there.
Customer support have advised all of my items still exist in the games data, they’re just lost in the void somewhere. They don’t take up space in my bags, but they do count towards quests. For example, in Mechagon if I go to make SPARE Parts, I have a bunch that are not in my bags.
I have tried:
It’s been 2 weeks of missing these inventory items and I have only seen it reported by myself and one other: Lost Inventory Items - #3 by Fáng-bloodhoof
Hi, I’ve just updated my post with some findings.
@Ayresii, sorry for the delay… I’ve just tried a few of my characters and I have some interesting findings… it certainly sounds like a bug.
Logging into characters with Catch-up available
- When selecting Pick up where you left off, characters inventories are empty except for hearthstone.
- When selecting Start the catch up experience, characters is teleported to Arathi Highlands and their inventory is intact, containing all the items I expect to see.
Logging into characters with no catch-up available
- Character inventory is kept intact, with all the items I expect to see.
Can you recall which options you selected for your characters?

CS advised a full UI/addon reset (did a clean install too for good measure), but this unfortunately did not work for me. Hopefully it might help someone else:
1- Completely exit World of Warcraft.
2- Uninstall any add-on managers to make sure they don’t re-add your removed add-ons.
3- In the Blizzard Battle.net desktop application, click Options (the cogwheel next to Play button) and select Show in Explorer (Windows®) or Reveal in Finder (Mac®).
4- Open the World of Warcraft® folder.
5- Open the folder for the game version you’re troubleshooting (retail, classic_era, or classic)
6- Rename the Cache, Interface, and WTF folders to CacheOld, InterfaceOld, and WTFOld.
7- Re-launch World of Warcraft so the changes can take effect.
If you continue to have errors, an add-on or macro may have changed a console variable.
You can reset this by typing the following command into your in-game chat box and pressing enter.
You may receive a permission error, but the command will still work. /console cvar_default
