[BUGFIX] 4th person camera view? do /console cameraPivot 0

Hello, I keep getting this bug when I make a new character…

The camera pivots as though it is giving me a third person view of my third person view… a fourth person view if you will.

Meaning you could stand inside a doorway, and try to look up, and the camera would pivot and look up at the stars from outside the doorway. When it should focus in on the ceiling inside the doorway, (should be in line with your character’s eyes).

I contacted a games master about it, they could not help me at all, together - neither of us could figure out what was happening… But since it was only happening on characters I didn’t want to play anyway I left it as it was.

I created a character on Classic a few weeks ago and this “bug” happened again. But it was fixed, just by enabling and disabling the only 2 options in the camera options of the interface options in the game menu (strangely).

Today I created a character on retail and got this bug again. Then my brother finally accepted the game time I gifted to him back in December and he got the same bug. So I picked at the issue even more to figure it out.

Using the console in-game I learned that the cameraPivot was set to a value of “1”.
(1 person standing behind your third person holding the camera?)

The fix for this bug is to type:

/console cameraPivot 0

There is no option in the game menu to fix this, and I am sure it is annoying many people. It takes too much text to explain - so I cannot simply make a bug report in-game. So I posted this solution here, as I am sure it is a bug.

I hope a dev will pick up on this and fix it. Nobody wants a 4th person camera view.

OK, everyone who I have asked, who has made a new character recently - does have this bug on their new character.

In both retail and classic.

Nice catch there Ronjambo. Not quite a bug but more an ingame setting incorrectly toggled for you.

This setting was originally Smart Pivot in the older Interface > Camera menu. It’s there to control how the camera deals with hitting a hard surface like a wall or the ground.

There are a few addons that make changes to this so you might have used one at some point and then removed it thus leaving the option turned on.

Well my friend did a fresh install on Classic and made his first character there, with no addons installed and his cameraPivot was set to 1 also.

It may be the case that some addons change this value (although I cannot think of one which would need to do so)… But I think this sure is a bug. Please investigate it further, as I have done.

Also, I have identified this issue with some new players, who came to play since classic but have not been using addons. New players are not even aware that the camera is misbehaving - as it is the only way they know it to be (until I talk to them about it).

Some are then reluctant to use the console command to fix it, because they don’t know what a console command is.

This setting is still incorrectly set by default on new accounts/characters & when you reset the UI.

New players can not know to type a command to fix the camera.

When will this be fixed?
