Buggy Addons

Hi everyone,

I’ve normally had a pretty good experience with Add-ons for WoW, but in this expansion I’ve had nothing but issues and it’s extremely disruptive to gameplay when massive LUA errors pop up on screen.

One example is BigDebuffs and whenever a mage polymorphs me, a LUA error keeps popping up until the effect ends. There are a few other Addons useful for arena that have their own issues too.

Has anyone else been experiencing such issues with Addons in this expansion? Has something been introduced that has broken the API, or is it just that the quality of Addons has dropped over time? Or is it something environmental to my setup?

I’ve tried everything, from nuking all Addons, and getting them again 1 by 1, updating to beta versions hoping it was a bug fix that wasn’t live yet, to a clean install of WoW - nothing has worked.

It’s a really poor experience in PvP, knowing that I have somewhat a disadvantage against others that may not be experiencing the same issue, or they’ve managed to find a configuration that works.

Any advice would be much appreciated, I can’t be the only one that is facing such issues?

Keep your addons up to date by checking for updates frequently. When was the last time you updated BigDebuffs as an example? I can see on the mod site that it was last updated 17 hours ago.

I recommend you use the CurseForge client to keep your addons up to date.

If addons give you errors, it’s not the game’s fault but the addon. If you continue to have issues, make a bug report to the author of the addon and hope they can fix it for you. The LUA Errors are a good way to track down the bugs.

EDIT: Get BugSack (and BugGrabber) to manage the LUA errors and help you identify the bugs.
