Burning Crusade Collectors Edition

Hey recently the support article for redeeming the burning crusade collectors edition was removed: https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/12275

Archived Link: https://web.archive.org/web/20210221162849/https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/12275

Is/was there an update to the policy regarding the BC:CE? I’m especially interested as I did send my mail to France before the removal of the article.

Hopefully, somebody who also recently redeemed the BC:CE themself can share the amount of time it took.

Thanks in advance!

The only thing I could find was:-

Note: Any unused Collector’s Edition keys from previous expansions can still be claimed on our Code Redemption page, with exception of keys for Burning Crusade.

Which excludes the TBC CE

Yes, but if it was sent before the article was removed …
I think you may have to wait for a blue to answer or make a ticket. Do you have proof of posting which shows the date it was posted?

I would imagine the article has now been rescinded due to the imminent closure of the Versailles HQ and hence nowhere to send the mail to… but that’s just a guess.

Think so too. I was expecting it to be closed already when I asked in a GM ticket on ~20th April, but the GM said its still active & based on that I bought the CE.

I sent a ticket yesterday and a GM replied that the codes are not redeemable anymore.

I had a pretty bad sleep tonight, because I remember back in 2007 I didn’t want to send in part of my collectors edition box just in order to get the pet ingame. But today I would…

I’m really scared it might be too late. I’ll reply to the ticket and put in as much information as possible (actually I’m driving by my little brother’s place today where the box still is to take pictures) and hope it will somehow work out.

I’m really shocked it might actually just be “too late”, especially with TBC classic coming up…

Please let me know if sending it in worked for you!

Cheers.

Edit: It still sounds odd to me, since I did indeed redeem the code back in the day, it just didn’t give me the netherwhelp pet - which was a common issue with EU TBC CEs afaik.

It was indeed that issue you’re thinking of back in the day that enabled CS to redeem digital TBC CE online after a simple method & check.

The problem was that these continued to be redeemed way beyond the amount of sold copies so they stopped. Mainly because of nefarious individuals re-selling them.

Then after public protests on the forums they revised their policies and declared all players who redeemed TBC CE’s will have to submit several physical parts of their CE’s forever removing them from the circulation.

Well that’s perfectly okay with me.

But it just does not make sense to me to make them non-redeemable even if I CAN provide the physical parts.

I want to respond once more here as I did a bit of texting via GM tickets and it may be useful for interested future buyers (or better said to stop you from buying!)

Now dont take this as 100% definitive answer, however future sent-in’s afer the removal of the support article (I think it was removed on 6th of May 2021) will no longer be accepted, thus any EU player will unable to redeem the original TBC:CE.

In my case, I did totally forget about Covid-19 and thus many many people in french office are working from home thus it takes longer than usual. I been told to wait just a little bit longer!

I hope this information can be useful for somebody in the future!

For informations sake, here is also a recent (at the time) reddit post with people talking about the issue: https://old.reddit.com/r/classicwow/comments/nczvhc/tbc_collectors_edition_netherwhelp_is_no_longer/

This is rather disheartening news, and to be quite frank totally unacceptable. I too have recently acquired a TBC CE sealed physical copy, at the time the “removed” redemption link was still active. Now all of a sudden I cant claim it??!

I have been lucky enough to claim a Vanilla collectors edition code recently with no issue, I don’t understand why TBC is so hard to do in the same way i.e. why cant I simply put my code in my account portal???

Blizzard, this needs to be resolved for those of us in the EU region, please acknowledge and provide us a solution! There are still a number of BC CE floating about for us collectors looking to complete our collection, please don’t leave us hanging dry!

The problem back in the day was that TBC CE’s does not grant the Netherwhelp pet and had to be done so manually. Rest is addressed in my post above, whether if they enable it again or not depends whether if they want to continue and take losses on this.

I’m sorry that’s still ridiculous either way especially as its only affecting EU players. The Blizzard “brain trust” need to figure it out, it cant be that hard…

Well they did figure it out in 2007, when that box was sold. They implemented a procedure to prove ownership of your box and they kept it going for a full 13 years, which - in my opinion - is support way beyond what can be expected of a software company. All boxes that now change hands come off the secondary market and at some point, a company needs to weigh incoming requests for CE upgrades to the employee cost of keeping that procedure active. With the closure of the Versailles office, I reckon they also shut down the redemtion process for TBC CEs in Europe.

Why can’t we just mail the barcode and the tcgcard to the office in the us? Feels Bad that we in europe getting left out.

Maybe you shouldn’t have waited 14 years to buy one?

It’s a legacy product and I think Blizzard have been good to allow you to do this for so long.

You could try contacting the US office and see if they will do it for an EU account.

Maybe Blizzard should have resolved this or implemented an automated / GM system to upload required information online.

I could not afford this back in the day and recently bought it, only to find out its impossible to redeem now. What on earth are Blizzard doing?

They should just put the rewards in the store like they did with the MoP ones. It’s been enough years and would be fair to give those to other regions too. Also I’d rather pay 35 euro to Blizz than a few hundreds to some shady ebay/amazon seller.
