Im confused…

Think you need Tier 6 (Exalted) reputation, with the Archivist’s Codex faction in Korthia to buy Alloy-Warping Facetor sockets with 5,000 Cataloged Research…but no rep to buy them with 1,000 Soul Cinders
Ye i know , well i got confused because i guess i found an old wowhead post that said you didn’t need any reputation when you buy with soul cinders.
Its just that i had fun coming back to the game after a long break now when i got s2 gear , but now when i farmed choregast in belives that i could buy sockets without any reputation makes me want to quit again. Its so fkn frustrating to lock everything behind this reputations when you have to run and farm other things.
Over and out im done yet again.
You shouldn’t need rep with soul cinders, is it defaulting to Catalogued Research?..also you cannot socket an item with an existing socket or Domination kit
Not sure what you asking , but yes when i try to buy them it says i need exalted
Think it may be trying to make you pay with Catalogued Research, rather than the soul cinders…for soul cinders speak to Bonesmith Heimir
No, im standing at Bonesmith Heirmir , it says its locked
Hmmm…that’s odd then, all the references say it should be ok, although apparently some armour types have less socketable items than others.
Cloth - 3 extra sockets (2 rings + neck)
Leather - 5 extra sockets (2 rings + neck + belt + bracers)
Mail - 4 extra sockets (2 rings + neck + bracers)
Plate - 4 extra sockets (2 rings + neck + belt)
Is it a Rank 5 or 6 Legendary?
It’s always required rep. At exalted with Death’s Advance for 1k cinders or at tier 6 with Archivist’s Codex for 5k research.
Then WoWhead and Icy Veins have got it wrong, they both say providing it is a Rank 5 or 6 Lego, it should not need Rep for buying with Cinders.
Where exactly does wowhead say it doesn’t require rep? Because in the Comprehensive Korthia & Maw guide, it clearly says that the 1k cinder item requires Exalted Death’s Advance.
As for legendaries: legendaries crafted or upgraded in 9.1 and onwards will have a socket if the slot is eligible for one.
With that said, since 9.1.5, you can get exalted with Archivist Codex in a day, and have enough research to buy all the sockets and conduit upgrades you’ll ever need:

On the Wowhead page dedicated to Alloy-Warping Facetor
There? Nowhere does it say it doesn’t require rep. Wowhead rarely shows the rep requirements for items, so it not showing there is no indication whatsoever. The actual, written guide, clearly states the requirements, however.
Just realised my search gave me a Wowheadptr page:
'Alloy-Warping Facetor can now be purchased in two ways, both from the Archivist’s Codex faction in Korthia:
Also this on Icy Veins:
'How To Obtain Sockets from Torghast in Shadowlands
In addition to being able to purchase the Alloy-Warping Facetor for Cataloged Research Icon you can also purchase it for 1000 Soul Cinders. These drop on higher Layers of Torghast, and the best part is that you do not need any Archivists’ Codex Reputation to purchase sockets with this currency.’
My bad… however the great thing about the Forum is when you get stuff incorrect, it always gets a fast response.
Yeah, that was on the PTR, and on the PTR, it didn’t have rep requirements initially. That was quickly fixed. Don’t trust PTR news, it’s worth checking the actual rep guides, those are usually up to date!
Emphasis mine, but the icy veins description sounds correct, you do not need any archivist codex rep. It does fail to mention that you need Death’s Advance rep, though.
To their defense - both wowhead and icy-veins - when these articles were written, prior to 9.1.5, death’s advance rep was considerably easier and faster to obtain than archivist codex. It was the codex rep everyone wanted to avoid, because it was, indeed, atrocious.
Yeah, my bad… I didn’t notice that it was a PTR page, if the info hadn’t been repeated on the Icy Veins page I used as a second source, I might have spotted it.
