Came back and have no idea what is going on

Hi I just came back to the game from a good break,

I must say this is the most confusing experience I’ve ever had coming back to this game and I’ve quit halfway through most expansions to play other games and never been as lost as I am now…

can anyone help or send me to a good video to catch-up to the current state of the game, seems like a mountain of effort to just be “caught up”.

I’m on the quest ‘Korthia, the city of Secrets’ should I just continue through the entire main quest?

don’t, try to find a way to go to the new zone “zereth mortis”. korthia will make you hate everything you see.

Welcome back!

You are most confused because this is the most confusing set of systems and unlocks Blizzard have ever developed. Their new designer, Franz Kafka, is due a bonus.

Follow Korthia ONLY until you get The True Maw Walker, so that you can mount in the Maw. Korthia is good for nothing else at this point.

Renown 45 is when you get flying, so anything you would like to do for Renown is good. Covenant Campaign is good- two birds with one stone. Torghast is efficient, with one Renown per clear. A dungeon will give you at least one Renown. Daily Callings will get you a Renown. Just settle in to some routine for keeping your Renown coming in for a couple of weeks.

As Robokiller said, Zereith Mortis is where you want to be ASAP. It’s the Land of Milk and Anima - and also more Renown. Think a botched version of the Timeless isle, with earned flying, and a campaign to work through for a Legendary. Once you get on the right road, it does carry you through in a straight line pretty well. You should have the quest Call of the Primus in your log somewhere. That’s the one to follow.

I’m not aware of a video, but here’s a guide: https://www.wowhead.com/guides/zereth-mortis-activities-how-to-unlock

Your gear isn’t that far out of date, but if you feel the need to beef up you will find item level 229 Cloth Greens and a 229 Intellect Staff and rings, cloak, and neck on the AH. Prices vary, but they are usually reasonable.

Just get on the Zereth Morits train, do your Covenant Campaign, and things will start to make a little more sense. Well, not the story, and now I think about it not the worldbuilding or the characters, or … but, well, you’ll get more used to it.

Ask again if you need more!

Have the same feeling. Shadowlands is confusing and overcomplicated. I have like twenty currencies I have no idea what for. I have some Runecarver memories, also no idea what those are for.

I got flying based off a wowhead guide and I figured out that Zereth Mortis is the Timeless Isle/Tanaan/Argus of the expansion. But other than that, no idea what I am supposed to be doing.

Guess I will follow the advice Gráinne gave and do the ZM campaign…

You take them to the Runecarver and right-click them, and he will learn them. Then when/if you ever want hin to inscribe those powers into a Legendary, you can just ask for them.

the ZM campaign gets you

a second legendary that takes its power from your Covenant. First you get a 365 belt with Unity inscribed for free, then you have the option to buy Unity as a Runecarver Memory, take it to him, and have him inscribe it on a dfferent slot.

Go to Zerith Mortis, it’s all you need to do for now.
Run some dungeons, else just focus on the Zerith Mortis stuff.

I don’t even bother with Korthia.
Also, get ZM flying asap, it makes life so much easier. I cannot understate that.

Do your campaign quests. After that, Zereth Mortis is the only relevant zone, you can skip Korthia.

Will do, thanks.

Thankfully I can respec Outlaw and grapple to the treasures, instead of annoying jumping and falling over and over.

thanks so much for all the help everyone
