After being gone from retail for many years I decided to try it out during the MoP classic waiting room.
Something I noticed straight away when trying out the Dragonflight content is that the camera is too zoomed in for my liking. I have inceased Camera FOV to max in settings, and using the script /console cameraDistanceMaxZoomFactor 2.6, but I still think it’s too zoomed in, especially when dragonriding. Are there more ways to increase the camera distance, or am I stuck like this?
Max settings and script works fine for me in Classic, it’s as zoomed out as I need it to be. But even though the view distance is probably the same in retail, it somehow feels too claustrophobic. It isn’t that much of an issue in general, I notice it mostly when dragonriding. My spontaneous feeling is that dragonriding would feel better if the view distance was even greater.
Is that 21:9 resolution? It doesn’t seem to be 16:9. And it seems to be more zoomed out than what I can at my 1920x1080.
Is it possible the zoom factor is related to the resolution ratio?
You don’t frequent the forums, or you’re new to them I suppose
That’s how far we could have had it back till MoP I think.
Yep, 21:9 (in fact 21.33333… : 9), also known as “ultrawide”.
I can’t test it because I don’t have an ultrawide monitor, but I will test if going from 16:9 to 4:3 reduces the max distance of the camera.
I personally wish we had a little more control over the Camera, I’d personally love to pitch it upwards, so I can see further into the horizon and having my character near the buttom of the screen instead of in the center.
The zoom factor doesn’t depend on resolution at all. Wider resolutions allow for more field of view left-to-right. But top-to-bottom is equal at all resolutions.
It looked to me as if you had larger zoom-out because your field of view from left-to-right is larger than mine. But the actual “distance” between the character and the camera is the same in every resolution.
