Camping for "rares" is NOT playing the game 🚩

You still haven’t countered my argument and you throw ad-hominem at me. I haven’t attacked your character or you as a person, I just didn’t believe the way you described how you ā€œstalkā€ and ā€œhuntā€ silently for the prey - which is a mob on a long timer, and does not include any of hunting skills. I described why I think so.

If you have such an imagination that you wait to do something idly AFK for hours and have such images in your head (so you don’t watch Youtube or TV while camping mobs? I really doubt it ) - I actually envy you.

But the game has not provided any of those things in-game mechanic-wise. You could imagine any kind of scenarios in a picture, but that’s what not we pay for, do we? That’s why a game provide tools and mechanics to reinforce imagination.

The only thing that the game provided is:

  1. A static monster location

  2. An hour+ respawn timer

  3. A 1-2% drop chance

No, that’s not how it is and I’m not taking your bait to be further ridiculed.

It’s not an argument, it’s your opinion so why would we want to ā€˜counter’ that, we have no right to do so and you are entitles to your opinion.

You however are NOT entitled to ask someone for justification for their opinion or to tell them it’s wrong. So do the grown up thing and accept that others don’t always share your opinion.

I apologize to Antler and anyone for offending the way they play the game. As it turns out, just by shear response percentage for and against - a majority of people enjoy this type of long respawn game mechanics…

I thought Blizzard could put more effort into making these rares more engaging and involved, like: stalking, hiding, preparing for the hunt or develop some new system.

Well, I stand corrected.

ā€œCountered your argumentā€ ??
You asked for an opinion, you got a response. There is no ā€œargumentā€ to counter.

You may not share that opinion, that’s ok, but you don’t get to ask for an opinion only to say it is wrong. Opinions are just that… opinions. They are not facts.

I accept your apology and sincerly hope you learned this is no way to treat people. Not even in the forums. We have discussions, not political debates here.

I’m not sure how debates and discussions work, but in a real world if one side just leaves the discussion because of X - nothing would get resolved. And yes, nobody countered my argument still.

Somehow this derailed into personal attacks - which was not my intention. If I was a game designer - I would get no concrete information what is enjoyable and what isn’t from this thread unfortunately… And I try to get some good examples where developers could take away something from this… seems like the forums are pointless medium to convey problems with the game…

The forums are actually a great place to convey problems and discuss them, the key words here is ā€˜discuss’.

You asked for for people’s opinion but when you read back on the replies, you actually were dismissing the opinions given and just ridiculing people for having such opionions.

If you want genuine feedback, then you must accept that not all the feedback given will be from people who agree with you. It was nice you offered an apology though to those you may have offended, I hope you get the mount of your choice with very little camping

Have a great evening

You really have to put the blame on something outside yourself. Now it’s the forums that are pointless.

Have you thought of it might be your attitude that is not a fruitful one?

You are right, it seems that I have to adapt to the game. If not then I have to move on. It’s a harsh reality for me as I love everything else in the game, but this was a breaking point unfortunately.

Good luck everyone, stay healthy.

@OP

I have 529 mounts here , and i totally understand what you are talking about

Getting your daily kill from an NPC that may drop you a mount is a chore , i still have to go to Mechagon to kill Rustfeather , i am so sick of it , but every day i do it on 6 characters and frustration is my daily friend

Blizzard sadly from trial and error found out that people will forget there fails and bad design if they shower player base with 20-40 mounts each major patch .

So usually when i see someone say " I AM HAVING SO MUCH TO DO I CANT KEEP UP ! " i ask him and it turns out afk @ spawn points is the most game time he is having per week .

It is NOT how this game should be played , but , the community allowed it to be so

This is the best post in the thread . Why did they change something that was not broken . The new rares in BFA are just rubbish and its actually a reason for a mount collector like me to quit.

Mounts to expensive
Mounts to RnG
Mounts to long respawn and then selfish people burst all cds and nuke.
Vendor mounts alone in excess of 15 million gold combined were can casuals earn that if they are busy stuck at spawn points for hours.

These are supposed to be rare mobs. As in you rarely see them. The other ones i tend to call named instead of rare simply because it fits them better.

I think this is more a problem of lacking destinction between actually rare mobs and the ā€œrareā€ mobs running around dropping azerite.

And let’s not forget, the genuinely rare ones don’t drop anything essential. Mounts, toys, transmogs etc. Sure these are things that are nice to have, but that’s about it. You may ā€œNeed this in your lifeā€ but you don’t need it to play the game.

Yup i second that and as someone who does not do any raids or m+ the casino wait time gameplay of bfa made me go and play other games.

I do hope shadowlands is better but if not then i think that will be the end of this game for me.

I am not fan of camping! Where is the fun in that part?

I play the game to enjoy my free time. If and only if I face a rare, at that time I kill it.

I wholeheartedly agree. The majority of casual players’ time is being consumed by waiting for rares to respawn and that makes people to leave to other games. This kills WoW as Guilds die out, communities struggle to find new people for various activities like Raiding, PVP, RP, etc.

People in this thread claimed that ā€œDONT DO IT IF YOU DONT ENJOY ITā€, and this ā€œsuggestionā€ does not solve the issue, it actually gaslights it.

I would invite anyone to give example of other MMOs where this type of gameplay is prevalent and is desired/invited by the playerbase.
(Because at it seems from posts here - this is the heart of MMO - huge timers on static respawn points)

I feel like a grandpa when saying this but damn if 2hour respawn timer is long for you you would really not like the older system.

2hour was minimum of rare mobs timer.
And say hunter pet loq’nahak had a 72hour respawn and 3 to 6 spawn locations.
And that was in wrath of the litchking.

Actually there is rare mobs has a silver dragon what people call rare mobs have a grey dragon.

well that’s clearly destinct from each other then. But maaaaaaybe Blizz could use something other than grey and slightly more shiny grey

Atleast loq’nahak spawned in different locations and while doing that camping you could gather resources and such but after wotlk for some reason rares were but in a single location where you just sit there and wait it respawn.

To me all the rares should work that way random spawn locations with no knowledge where it pops up next and more health that it does not die in 5 seconds when some random fury warrior goes rofl rofl mongo dps on it.

At least that way the ā€œgameplayā€ would not be like watching BB on TV

I don’t like long respawn timers, but I 100% agree with this. I would have no problem with this solution.

This makes:

  1. A rare actually a rare
  2. Player actively has to hunt down the monster (move the character)
  3. Doing other things while scounting, like herbs and mining (further improving the character)
  4. Playing WoW, instead of NOT playing (watching TV, Youtube, etc, playing other games)
