Camping for "rares" is NOT playing the game 🚩

What makes me sad is people killing rare hunter taming mobs just for the lols.

Why would you sit and wait you do a fly over is it there or not.
You do not have to sit there and wait on people.

Yeah I doubt you farmed rare mobs back then it is far worse trying to kill a rare when you have no possible way of knowing where or when it spawns. Instead of flying over locations you just have to randomly hope it is somewhere and not killed.

On the mob hp thing.
You play a mage all you need to do is put a blizzard down in the area and you will have tagged the mob. You know the spawn timer when you know when it died last you just kill it the next time go watch something on youtube when waiting.
And if that is problematic you will not be able to do fishing archeology or any of those activities.
Well then you do not really need that ā€œrareā€ mob in the first place.

I have not camped a single mob in BFA for longer then 1min and it is going fine on multiple characters.

What is it that makes you think you need that rare mob so much in the first place?

And this makes it take longer to find a rare it means more time walking around looking it means way more times you will find the corps instead.
Are you trying to help casuals or make it so they need to wait further to get whatever they are trying to do done?

It means more time not playing the game or rather you need to play the game but all you are doing is running or flying around looking for the rare.
Instead of having a set wait time of a break from the game.

Try fishing and you will see a little bit of what it is like to do what you liked here.
And it would be far more impactful then it is for fishing.

to be fair, if i see a rare, i kill it. I neither know or care whether it’s just rare because it’s for hunters. It’s rare so i kill it. I might very well have upset a few hunters that way in my time, but I just don’t have a hunter myself so i don’t keep up to date on rare tames.

If it’s not out of spite, so be it. More a sht happens thing then.

The hunter tames aren’t marked as ā€œrareā€ nor drops valuables, with some exceptions.

I don’t go out of my way to piss off a hunter just because. But if a rare tame has a rare emblem, it’s minced meat. Well, i did kill Plasmacat in sholazar once because a friend of mine is a hunter and was about 5secs behind me and i just needed to hear the dispair in his voice.

Such a happy Birthday that was for me

That infact made me laugh… :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Words marked in Bold: the difference between running around and actively looking for a rare VS ā€œset wait timer of a break from the gameā€ - is exactly as you described - Playing the game VS not playing the game.

if you brought up fishing, lets take a look:

In fishing - you watch the float and you have to be vigilant to be able to catch a fish - there is NO TIMER on the fish - its 100% random. The fish can take a bait anytime. You actively participate or you WONT CATCH ANYTHING.

OR

You use spin fishing and you actively throw your rod and bait every minute or so.

Those both examples take some active action and there are no TIMERS. Its completely random, BUT you actively can impact your fishing:

  1. Getting better bait.
  2. Feeding fish in the same spot for several days
  3. improving your technique
  4. Using water scanning devices

IN WOW: We have NONE of those things, its a complete Casino gambling mechanic.

The only rare I actually camped was the alpaca in Vol’dun and I was so bored and close to quiting when it finally spawned for our camp group of 40 ppl…

and I only did the 4 hours because it was weekend and I really wanted it AND it is a 100% drop.

The latest mounts are ugly have an abyssmal drop rate and I hate just sitting somewhere doing nothing. If you at least can fish while waiting… or something but this just sitting around and then the stuff does never drop… I have only seen one mount drop. I do mount raid runs because there I can get at least some transmog and I can go with which ever char still needs stuff from there… but these world bosses … I do them once in a while… It is not my kind of game play sitting around in the game … if I play I wanna PLAY not doing what I could do in RL … this is wasting my time, that I can use better otherwise.

I love to collect mounts, but my willingness for doing stuff does not extend to waiting a longer extent of time… just to be dissapointed …

I feel what you described to the bone. It would be fantastic if we could do something ingame while waiting - then there wouldn’t such a problem. Maybe fishing, maybe some puzzles, maybe rescuing turtles (just kidding!), anything really.

I got few more mounts in 8.3, some were very lucky drops, but Looking back at how I spent the time - i did not enjoy the process at all. I love WoW, I love playing the characters, but idle camping for hours - is one of the worst designs so far.

I played (and started to play again) FFXIV, ESO, GW2, and some others, and I haven’t encountered anything like it… I’m surprised how in WoW this is so widely accepted…

Wrong there are 2 or 3 points in the fishing timer when it can happen.
It is not even close to random go fish ingame for 2hours come back when you see the pattern.

And you VERY clearly have not farmed for those 72-140hour respawn timer mobs as you would not claim that running around is playing the game.

And also why do you think you NEED to get the ā€œrareā€ mob as a casual in the first place?

This reminds me of something…

You completely missed my points, im not talking about in-game fishing, im talking about real life example and why is it an actively involved activity. If in-game fishing is on 2 hours timer than its just sad…

Nope, fishing mounts are just ridiculously low drop rate so you basically spend countless hours standing in one spot and clicking the lure.

Whoever created the fishing mounts and rare fish is a sadistic monster…

I don’t agree complaining about a goal that is completely personal and optional (gathering mounts). Personally, the rarer a mount is the better, I don’t want to own some dumb mount that everyone and their mothers own. Definitely wouldn’t go around riding that thing.

And it’s not like crazy mount farms from rares are a new thing, actually quite the opposite. Remember the timelost protodragon? There’s a lot more rare mounts than that as well, and those have insane spawn timers, sometimes up to days (or well, some of them used to, blizzard buffed the spawn rates recently). Compared to that, waiting a measly 30 minutes sounds quite pleasant.

Although I have to admit that since those rares drop the mounts guaranteed and these new rares don’t, it can get kind of old farming for them. I don’t know how I would handle the situation personally, but I would probably move away from rare drop mounts almost entirely and instead creating other content that gives these mounts that isn’t dependent on RNG. A challenge of sorts, for example. But yeah, mount farming has always been pretty tedious, so I don’t know why you’re all acting as if this is a new thing.

No never camped a rare why would i its the most tedious activity ever invented by the playerbase.

I completely agree. It is my fault for creating such goals for myself, but as I mentioned prior to 8.2 this was not an issue at all. Seems that many would agree that the process of acquiring the current 8.2 and 8.3 mounts is not player-engaging and would rather see a different alternative that is more involved gameplay-wise.

If I was a game designer - I would create content that majority of the playerbase would enjoy - Instead, NOW we have a very tedious mechanic that not many enjoy but do it anyway due to reward and having a high-tolerance level of dull gameplay. (Or just watch TV…)

Difference is back in wotlk hunters before CRZ had a code of honor and used to write on forums or in general chat when last spawned and tamed .
Meaning you could guess the next time and do next thing you wanted for a couple days so your post is moot.
Ive recently been lucky and tamed 3 of him in same day and within 2 hours due to sharding .

Its a game which i have played since classic and i wish people would get over themselfs thinking camping and rares are prestige and way game should be played it really isnt at all its meant for relaxing and fun.

You DONT FARM you camp massive difference clearly something you lack understanding .

How do you expect me to know you are talking real life when literally every single thing otherwise has been INGAME?

I see you have not gone to the petopia discord.

This was not the case on tarren mill, lighting’s blade. Nor was it normal on outland.
So you are just wrong.

It is not and all you need to do is fly over with a macro and you will randomly find it someday.
Not sure why you replied to me saying this though.

YOU NEVER FING NEEDED TO CAMP ANYTHING by standing still you fly over the point is it there, no, fly somewhere else this is as much CAMPING AS STANDING STILL WAITING.

If you do not understand that I have a very hard time believing you have ever done this for anything that takes actual time.

In your own words - If flying/scouting around is just as BAD as camping and waiting still - that means they are both BAD.

So why are you defending camping a rare for hours+ since 8.2?

Could it be because camping a rare is a no/low effort endeavor? That does not require playing the game, and you can go AFK, go do other things?
