Can I earn Recruit a Friend rewards if my friend plays classic?

I am really stupid and forgot that Recruit a Friend exist and 3 of my friends actually started playeing (and stopped in the meantime) WoW so I could have gotten some recruit a friend rewards.

One of my friends that used to play WoW now whats to come back but only to play WoW classic, and he doesnt plan to buy Shadowlands nor Dragonflight expansions.

So I have 2 questions, I know that rewards dont apply to classic but I dont really care about that.
Can I earn Recruit a Friend rewards if my friend just buys gametime to play WoW Classic without buying any expansions?
Can I get RaF rewards even if my friend is not new player as he used to play WoW a year ago (so he wont make a totally new account)?

If your friend uses your RAF invitation then yes, you will receive your rewards in Retail. It does not matter that your friend only plays in Classic, it does not even matter if your friend play at all. RAF requires that your friend paid the sub, that is, playing is not required.

In fact, many players have used RAF to recruit themselves on a second account and I am sure many of them have created that second account, pay the subs for the rewards, and do not even bother to create any character.
