i’m not sure whats wrong with me, but i can’t keep playing one char. since i started playing the game in legion, i been switching between classes and leveling them all then get bored of them, one day i feel like playing rogue one day a warrior.
i know this is normal and people play alts all the time, but alteast they ahve a class they call main, i don’t have that. and the problem i keep getting bored cos i have no gear and i done no raids or contenct i end up doing the same quests same gearing up same leveling over and over again, and in the end i get bored and leave the game for a while.
i’m not sure how to counter this, for example i really liked warrior then i got bored and now i really wanna play mage for pvp. then i start to hate mage everytime someone 1v1 me training me with melee stuns and interrupts left and right i feel like mage only good in BG or group content, or i just need to get better. problem is i don’t stick to it to get better cos i keep switching, now i can’t even decide to focus on mage, rogue or warrior.
idk why i’m sharing this, but maybe someone went through my problem and fixed it and can lead me to how i go about fixing this problem i have?
…I think you counter it by joining a community/guild, start doing raids and content, and have a reason to stick with one character.
It is not viable to have more than 1-2 alts at high performance levels. As soon as you actually start running with other people, when you’re grouping up to do a +17, now you have to bring a good character. You don’t want to let your friends down by bringing one of the bad ones; so you choose one to focus on. You chose a long way before 17, tbh, but the point is that the social game will make you pick a main.
And you’ll probably learn to appreciate it more because you’ll feel it shine when other people are relying on you to do your job
I’m the same to be honest. In BFA mained pretty much everything at one point or another. The thing that keeps me playing/not getting bored is setting a challenge. Like every chara I aim to get all +15 keys done in time. That keeps me going a while. Once that’s done it falls into the one dungeon a week for the top box loot, and play something else.
I mean, once you’re in the situation of “oh, they need a dps for XYZ, they have 2 melee already”… you’ll take a ranged dps then, because that’s what the team needs. Now your ranged dps is slightly better geared because the healer gave you their drop.
Then next time they need rdps, they think of you. So obviously you bring that again.
If you really don’t care and can’t decide; let the circumstances choose for you. Bring the character your community/guild needs. Repeat a few times and the power gap starts making it obvious that you only have 1-2 viable characters now. Must be your main.
ty guys for the suggestions, i think i’ll work on only 3 chars, the most ones i liked warrior, rogue, mage. and see how things go from there, i just need to try not to think about playing others and stick to these 3, cos these 3 are the ones that i always come back to. i’ll take your suggestions and try to push content with these 3 classes and see which one i keep interested in the most.
I was in a similar shoe for a while but i started using All The Things addon, It’s basically a tool to track everything in the game you can collect… I set it to show items i can get on my DK and i started collecting transmogs, mounts, pets, everything with it.
Not sure if this is any help for you but it might help a bit
thank you, anything is a help. i had some fun in the past collecting some gear from old raids on my warrior, that was fun relaly. but i’m thinking to trying out a new plan as above suggestion to pick a class for the content i’m doing. well the thing is i always been a pvper but with mage in the open world always frustrated me when i get ambushed. so i would play warrior or rogue and i would defence my self pretty well.
so i think since i really like mage, i will try it out in pve i will take break from world pvp and just do BGs everynow and then, and focus on pve mainly. in the future i may gain the skills to do open world pvp on my mage, and for now i’ll see how much i will like mage without the frustrating pvp moments.
I couldn’t pick a class/race for over years now… But in the end I managed to pick this little belf. It’s really nice having a main and doing all content on that one character.
I think problem with people like us is always "Grass is greener on the other side"
You play mage, and then you see a Paladin that has bubble, self-healing and cool wings, okay you reroll Paladin.
Now you miss having teleports/portals, you miss your combustion, you miss your blink and invisibility out of combat!
You just have to calm down, think a lot and chose what appeals to you the most.
I picked my mage over paladin, and there is now way I’m switching main ever again.
I didn’t read all the replies because I’m getting sleepy, so sorry if what I am going to say has already been said, but here goes.
I used to have a similar issue, I started with Hunter, then Warrior, then Rogue, then Warrior again with Hunter sometimes, and even started leveling a Resto Druid(this was in a WotLK private server).
Then when I finally came to retail about a year ago I tried DH, I really liked the mobility and it was my main for quite a while until I got bored of it, the mobility is fun but other than that meeeh…
And started swapping between classes again, but I started noticing some sort of pattern. Or else, I started figuring out why I swapped classes so much, mainly Hunter, Rogue and Warrior, and what I liked about each. After that I realized that Survival Hunter is my favourite spec because it has all the stuff I like, or most of it anyway so yeah Hunter, specifically SV became my main.
I still wanna play on the Warrior, but from now on as tank instead of DPS.
Anyway, my advice is, figure out what is it that you enjoy in each class/spec and try to figure out which is the one with the most out of what you enjoy. For me it was the utility/tricks and pet from Hunter, the invisibility from Rogue, the targeted dash (in SV it’s a chain pull but same thing) and 2H from Warrior, so SV Hunter was the answer for me.
Play a warrior and a mage will seem powerful in a BG, play a mage and a rogue will seem powerful, play a rogue a warrior will seem powerful. Your choosing by perceived power. All have their strengths and weaknesses!
It’s not about finding the strongest class in general, it’s about finding what works right for you as a player. This can be more apparent in PvP as you have to improvise constantly, requiring you are comfortable with your abilities.
I think you cant settle because you’ve not found the right class/spec for you. A class should fit the users play style as closely as possible.
I always had a bias for warrior/rogue type classes in games, or ranged melee for an alt. Though i have cycled through spec builds as patches come out. Same goes for any game.
If you lean towards warrior, try all builds. Do the same for those youve enjoyed to see if it really pulls you in. If not, think about what aspects you liked, and those you didn’t. Given your current choices, alternative options could be shaman, paladin, monk, dk, druid or maybe even hunter.
Until you find that answer, i would main that which you said you most enjoy though. Even if just for the sake of actually seeing end game content it will your experience and arm you better to choose a longer term main.
I have the same. Alt-oholic.
But my goal is to have all classes at max level, its not important for me to have a main really. It has to be fun, and not feels like work. And for me fun is to play different characters and learn them all:)
