My biggest gripe with the Cataclysm is that it took timeless zones like Westfall and Darkshore and basically locked them at a certain point in time.
I mean, if I go to Redridge, the crater in Render’s Valley is still smoking.
In Westfall, Sentinel Hill is still on fire in a Defias attack that has apparently been going on for over 13 years (that’s when I did that quest originally).
Isn’t it about time to get rid of the Cataclysm elements from the original continents? Honestly, at this point, I would consider even a Zidormi option to go the pre-Cataclysm state a win.
Old world has to be updated finally. Old zones had that something, the soul and deephnes that made the game a good mmo. The traveling, exploration was on point.
It’s been many years since Cata and still some aspects in the zones literally don’t make sense. It should be fixed just like the Stormwind.
I still remember when I saw Kalimdor and Easter Kingdoms being destroyed, and really didn’t liked it. This, introducing flying everywhere, getting ptsd from some op classes like DK in PvP, and ugly new textures apart Uldum made me hate this expansion, and be the worse even from Shadowlands, and BfA. If I remember correctly part of the team has changed back then working on WoW. It was end of the open world pvp for me. Timeless Isle brought it back a bit tho.
I agree. The “default” world should be as timeless as possible. I find it extremely immersion breaking passing by Westfall and still see a tornado from 14 years ago. And that’s just one example. Poor Camp Taurajo is still burning today.
Just remove those stupid effects like tornado, lava, etc. from zones that gives you the impression that the cataclysm happened 5 minutes ago. It would already be much better.
Allowing Zidormu to revert the zones to Classic era versions would be great. Would have to apply to whole world or at least a whole continent rather than just a single zone.
Technically possible but could be some work to implement.
