There is a serious issue with the way the solo shuffle matchmaking system works. In 40-50% of all the games I play, there is a huge difference between the CR of the players.
Please take a look at the following example (I can’t attach pictures directly to the forum) : https://imgur.com/Vfzu9pd https://imgur.com/rMnFt1Y
How is it possible that 2K CR players get matched with a 0 CR healer? I mean, I get it that probably the system is optimized to find teams fast, and to reduce queue times, but how is it possible from matchmaking system point of view that it is OK to match a 0 CR player with 2K CR players?
I have other examples and picture proofs, but I don’t think they are necessary, its basically the same thing but reversed. You get ~1700 CR healers (450 full gear, enchants, gems, etc.), with 0 CR DPS, in full blues, and with no previous PvP experience in any past expansions.
If you have 0 CR (either you are a new player, or you play a new spec), you should be matched with people of the same level. You will gradually learn if you put effort into it, and you will definitely improve over time. It is not a pleasant experience for anyone in the lobby that there is this huge difference in skill. Most of these types of games are over in ~30 seconds.
CR means Cosmetic Rating, it’s as its name implies a cosmetic value ppl likes to wave around like some kind of trophy to make them feel good about themselves, esp on forums when arguing about PVP balance.
It is also the value the game uses for unlocking rewards (most of which are cosmetics)
What is actually used for matchmaking is the MMR (or MMV as blizzard calls it), it is shown on the leaderboard btw
Your 0 CR toon probably had his MMR carried over from previous season, fresh toon playing RSS first time ever should have a MMR of 1500
I also wanted to point out still allowing 300-400 MMR difference between DPS and healers is a moronic idea made in Blizzarland
CR actually means Current Rating which is your “achieved rating”. This is the only rating that matters, because it means you put in the “WORK aka winning games” X “MMR”.
MMV/MMR is your “potential” and “matchmaking rating”. This is where the game believes you will perform the best.
A player with 0 CR can have 2k MMR, if the game feels like thats a good spot for him, but that doesn’t mean he is a “2k” player, because he didn’t win enough games at that MMR for his CR to go there.
I get where you’re coming from with queue times, however it does not make sense.
Why have slightly faster queue time, if all 6 games will be astronomically imbalanced? The people with 0 CR have either full PvE gear, and they are getting one shotted, or PvP greens and some blues. Its not fair nor it makes sense for a matchmaking system to match a player with 500+ solo shuffle rounds and 2K CR with another player with 0 CR, 0 games played in the season. Where is the logic in all this?
An analogy to this would be : imagine that for a world chess championship, among the top super GMs, (2700+ ELO) the organizers would allow the participation of sub 1800 ELO players without even going through qualifiers, etc. Where is the logic?
I’d rather wait 30 minutes, as a healer, to get a good lobby, with people having the same level as me. That way, the games would be balanced. That way, there would be no frustration. That way I would actually enjoy playing the game. That way, I would not get filled with mixed emotions every time I press the queue button.
Its actually more than 40-50% of the games I initially mentioned, it’s the same situation in 7/10 games. I am on summer vacation and I have time to grind arenas, and I just dropped 300 CR because of this exact issue. In 7/10 games there is at least 1 player with 0 CR. The hard part that everybody is the lobby is sweating about is to get 3 wins when not playing with the 0 CR player in the team. If its not a 0 CR player, is a sub 500 CR player with green + blues that is basically the same level as a 0 CR player, and does not press any defensive buttons in 6 rounds. How is this fair? How is this encouraging people to continue playing arenas, or, for new players to start playing arenas?
0 CR player doesn’t always imply autofeed. It usually does, but not always. First games I had on my blue geared ret paladin were on like 2k mmr and i managed to pull off some 3-3s or at least 2-4s.
You get what you get if you actually wanna heal the Solo Shuffle meme. At the end of the day, nobody cares about your Shuffle experience or rating except you. If you believe you are a good healer player - go heal premades in real brackets. Problem solved. Everybody is looking for a healer anyway.
Its funny and sad at the same time that people refuse to make even the slightest attempt at making friends and finding people to play with in an MMORPG.
