So back in WoD they had an “Floating Combat Text” tab in the interface options menu. There you could tick a box from “base” to “traditional” and essentially get the old floating combat text. In the Legion pre-patch however, when they simplified the UI, they removed this option entirely!
Why? I don’t know.
I’ve been trying different addons but nothing can fully recreate the same floating combat text behaviour and size that we had in the pre-WoD days. Atleast WoD had an option to go back to a previous version.
Since they have an option for displaying old character models in the game, can’t they also have an option to display old floating combat text aswell? After playing classic wow I can tell you I find the OLD floating combat text to be far more satisfying to watch than this new version. I don’t know what it was, but I just feel more connected to my character playing with those older floating combat texts, there is a better real-time feedback.
Now if there is some addon out there that can fully restore the old floating combat text I’d be happy to hear it. But I have not seen any myself.

Notice how when he crits the crit number is much more emphasized and bigger than on retail, aside for that, the way that it ‘pop up on the screen’ is also a thousand times more satisfying than on Retail.
Go to Interface > Combat and uncheck Scrolling Combat Text for self in and use this command. Get the AddOn Nice Damage and, use this console command. You can make a macro out of it.
/console floatingCombatTextCombatDamage 1
You can also change the font style to match Blizzard’s font style.
