They even break their own UI with patches.
But, yeah, the errors have been annoying. It even broke gold counter which is an addon that just adds the gold of all your characters and shows you the number.
I dunno how they do it.
I understand that you dislike them, but you are taking what I said out of context.
The changes for seasoned players that already use addons are meh, since most of the times we use addons to edit what we want.
But for new players that just enter the game, the fact that they do not need addons to customize the game and have a rudimentary playable UI instead or the atrocity we had 2 expansions ago is a game changer. Down the line they will still use addons, but now they are not immediately pushed away by the UI trying to ruin your fun.
Yeah that’s a fair take for the customization of the UI, as in you can decide what goes where and you don’t have to download an addon for that, you’re absolutely right there.
I did give it a try without addons, but found elements that I had moved before with addons were unmovable with just the base UI, but thats less relevent for new players ofcourse who aren’t already used to being able to move everything
The size of the spellbook and the map icons however I struggle to see it in a similar way, I don’t see how what we had before wouldn’t be better even for newer players
If you need addons to play…
Their own UI should flawlessly, and there’s no excuse for things like the current spell book size - that’s just shooting themselves in the foot, but I don’t see how they can be expected to maintain backwards compatibility with thousands of ‘unofficial’ add-ons. That would be the tail wagging the dog. And add-on dev’s owe us nothing, quite the opposite, so we can use the ones we choose to or not, as we please. As for banning them all, I don’t think the needs (or QQ’s) of the few surpass the needs of the many.
I keep reading that you need so many addons to play and I don’t know, maybe I have superpowers, but it’s been months since I heavily cut my addons, now my game is almost vanilla, it plays just fine and all the managing it requires is for me to click a button in curseforge every now and then.
Shed the dumb useless clutter you’re somehow convinced it’s needed to play, and you’ll be fine. It takes some getting used to, of course, I too thought I needed everything.
Turns out I didn’t.
While i also did hear that addons cannot be monetised .then why curseforge aka overwolf claim that they pay addon creators from curseforge premium or the ads that they show in their platform ?
Will that not come in monetisation category?
Explained it to the post that is 2 posts after the one you quoted.
Blizzard policy is that addon developers cannot lock access to the addons behind a paywall, or put payment system inside wow (like an addon that has a shop/sub page inside the game). Everything else is grey area and blizzard does not enforce.
WoW without addons will be like Elden Ring, and these people don´t want that.
also, the creators don´t even get paid for the addons you use so have patience for updates.
One of the better selling and well reviewed games? I don’t get the comparison lol…
Addons are doing all the work for you looking at DBM… when to move what’s incoming…
souls-like games in general. been playing Elden Ring for days now so it’s all I can think of
if Elden Ring had DBM we would complete the game within a week or two.
and without addons this game (WoW) would die out because it´s too hard for many players.
Probably refuses to use it cos pf overwolf
I can tell you: They “probably” updated the API hook to deal with x-realm warband currency issues and the addon developer hasn’t adapted, because other addons that offer the same functionality like Titanpanel also don´t currently work
Such a poor take. People want them for quality of life and customisation.
“Hurr durr dEy NeEd AdDoNs”
Addons allow challenging content
only addon ever worth using war wardrobe and even that is now built in the game
I don’t even use add-ons. Never did.
Definitely right there. Worse if you have an action bar higher up the display. Maybe if Spell book was a floater. Also hate the fact that when in AH opening prof panel to click mats into search closed AH window (not all profs tho).
No more like ppl can’t dps or kill bosses without being told what to do
“Addons allow challenging content” then the content is badly done…
The problem is - some classes are almost unplayable without WAs and addons.
Try winging an outlaw rogue for instance.
And certain mechanics in dungeons or raids are still “hard to notice”
