That looks amazing!
Hello,
After some reflection, I’ve decided to cancel the event.
When I took on organizing this event my goal was to bring the community together through the Grand Thalassian Tournament. I spent time creating all the materials for it including the photoshopped promotional content and designs, reorganizing systems and adding some spice of originality. Unfortunately, despite these efforts I put into planning, preparing and writing up, there’s been very little response or interest, and continuing with the event no longer seems worthwhile.
I generally thrive and work on enthusiasm, if the community gets excited about something, it energizes me to see things through. Though in total the lack of engagement around this event has had the opposite effect.
Personally I’ve also found that I’m not roleplaying as much as I used to, which I will admit could be a massive problem in terms of “advertising” in-character. I had hoped that taking on this project might reignite some of the passion within the community, but instead, the lack of enthusiasm has only emphasized the division that exists. This division, in turn, stifles initiatives like this one. It’s hard to create a sense of unity when it appears like roleplayers are more focused on their differences than on coming together in alot of cases. Though again, I think my vacancy on the roleplay scene plays a big part to all of this.
If I had more time on my hands, wasn’t ill, and maybe was five years younger, I’d have the energy to push this through. Though, as things stand - investing more time into something that’s barely gained traction from the beginning, doesn’t seem like time well spent.
To those who did show support, my thanks. I believe that in a more united times, projects like this could thrive. For now, though, it’s best to step back from this event. It may suck and be disappointing but alas, I would rather say it how it is from my perspective rather than vaguely dance around a point. Edit: on the side note I have a lot of personal stuff going on suddenly, I will not go into it here
Thank you for understanding,
Kelvarthas
I respect your honesty on the matter, and while I am being honest, none of this event drawed in my (Horde-)characters at any point; them being Nightborne, I do appreciate the effort put into the event itself!
A shame to see all the effort go to waste nonetheless, and I do hope you’ll find your drive(and time!) for RP again in the future!
As for your main “problem”, I do feel Horde RP has splintered into to many party’s and factions to ever truely heal from it, unless Blizzard gives it a good reason to unite once again, they are doomed to play second fiddle to the Alliance and their characters, and thats one of the reasons Horde RP is basicly dying out, from my NElf PoV, atleast!
There was just two massive Horde social events; the Kosh’harg, and the Morbid Moot. Both reached well above a full raid cap in attendance, and one of them was nigh exclusively racial themed, for a race that basically only has less than a few active guilds going on.
Is it really an entire faction’s roleplay dying and the sky is cracking, or is it that the event has changed its vision, hosts, and schedule; had its attendance lists pruned; and has been delayed several times all the way from early-to-mid summer to early autumn? Let us not be fatalistic about the simple matter that people simply weren’t interested in this, in specific, after all I have mentioned.
Horde RP in general has been growing in my experience. More and more initiatives keep cropping up. The tournament was just plagued with uncertainty from the start.
It’s a little tiring to see the sentiment that Horde RP is “dying” from people who, honestly, don’t partake in any Horde RP.
Does SW-style RP not happen to nearly the same extent as on Alliance side? Of course - Horde settlements and group identity as a setting doesn’t lend to it. But people are dedicated, engaged, and interested when they feel like they fit in and their characters are suited for events.
I’m sorry to hear about this being cancelled, but my own personal schedule was filled up with campaigns at the dates you picked for the original schedule. The lack of enthusiasm may be a direct response due to overlapping RP already being organised - the Monsoon War and the Echoes of the Abyss campaign are already both happening this week.
While I certainly agree with you on the Horde not being dead at all, like many wish to often say, I also shall put the note out there that even during the original tournament schedule we had far too few sign ups to fill out the various activities, except for the Duels. With interest stemming mostly from the bloodelf population and some of your beautiful bones.
That said, I would not deduce from this that Horde RP is dead - but rather that a Tournament Style Event is simply not hitting the Zeitgeist of the Horde Community at large, for now.
@Kelvarthas. Thank you for trying to pick this up and for being so open about it. I wish it had gone better than for me and were I not still wholly absent from RP due to aforementioned reasons, I wish I could have helped you better. All the best to you man!
