Can't activate ray tracing

Blizz refuses to let me activate the new ray tracing cuz my rtx 2080 super is too old and outdated for them. I realize it is from last September and I should probably upgrade within the next decade or so but come on I think it can handle ray tracing.

If you have the option in the in game settings, you have to manually select it in the advanced options menu, if your card isn’t showing up, take it off auto detect by selecting the card by name, you also need to enable RT in nvidia settings, AND ensure you have the Windows 10 version 2004 or newer via windows update

Exactly this - you can’t enable it unless you have the Win 10 2004 update. This build included the new Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling.

Once installed just make sure you have GeForce driver 451.48 or newer.

You can check your current windows version by typing winver into Start.

If you have the 2004 v - you then enable the new graphic settings by doing the following

  1. Go to System > Display > Graphics Settings.
  2. The Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling option is displayed on the page that opens if both the GPU and the GPU driver support the feature.
  3. Use the switch to set the feature to On.

Please also bare in mind that the 2004 windows update (May Update) was also a phased update to those who have versions 1903 and 1909. Just go to Windows Update to see if you can update.

Lots of information on how to do this is available on windows blogs
